We started with cereal at 4 months and the plan (I thought) was to then go with a new veggie each week. He's been getting solid foods for 3 weeks now. DH gave him bananas because he liked them. Then last week we went to visit my family for the first time since he was born. We live 14 hours away from them. My grandfather loves to give babies food. He has now had every fruit along with squash and green beans. He was also snuck some mashed potatoes and whip cream from the adult plates. I was not very happy about that. But that's my grandpa. DS has done awesome with it so far! Thankfully!! The only time he seemed to have stomach issues was after having the whip cream. No surprise there!
Waiting until 6 months, never doing cereal, it's pretty void of any real nutrition.
Where did you get this information? Whole grain cereals are a great source of iron, which is really important for breastfed babies. And that's from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
My little girl hates cearal but it's such a great source of iron she's 4 months 2 weeks and at the 4omth mark just got starving !! So I started mixing pumpkin with the rice cereal in the morning and she eats this no problem now, then pumpkin or sweet potato or broccoli for lunch and mixing it up for dinner to, I just introduced some banana yesterday and she went nuts for it

When you introduce solids, does the amount of times you BF in one day decrease? If so, what do you do to not lose your supply?
To your question, no you keep feeding them the same at first because you don't give them too much solids at one time! Over time your baby will let you know when they are full!
We started solids at 4 months and have only done veggies (carrots, sweet potatoes, and peas). We do like 2 tablespoons a day and introduce a new veggie every week. We haven't quite figured out how to integrate it into our every day schedule! But she loves everything we have given her!
Anyone have suggestions on "scheduling" it into your day.?

Anything 'nutritional' in cereal or any grain type products has been added artificially - that's why flours, cereals, etc. are 'fortified'. Meats, green veggies, etc. are a natural source of iron for baby. Plus if you are formula feeding still, lo will be getting iron. And, definitely not picking on American moms with this comment, but since formulas there are allowed to be made with corn syrup as the first or second ingredient, I'm not going to take too much from the AAP on nutrition.... And, I TOTALLY get that's all that available there, and you need to feed what you have - but as a note, our formulas in Canada of the same brand - totally different ingredient list. I have to give LO formula here, but I'm glad it doesn't have that in it.

You should offer solids after a feed at this point - most of baby's nutrition should come from milk/formula since it's nutritionally complete, so feedings won't decrease for a few months likely.

We are also struggling with this. We have a pretty solid bed time routine, down to the minute it seems like!... We created a cute monster. We are feeding cereal (1.5 tbsp w breast milk) then bath the bottle. I know this is how you're 'supposed' to do it.. But if makes most sense so far. Suggestions welcome!!
We started baby girl on rice cereal at 4 months. (It's just how my family does things) I don't mix it the way it says though. They want you to make it too runny! I make it thick so she can actually eat it. She probably eats about a tablespoon every morning for breakfast (around 7) and then drinks a 5oz bottle. I'm hoping to start veggies for lunch and dinner in a few weeks when she hits 5 months
To schedule into our day....we do first feeding around 6am and he's back down for a nap at 745am. He wakes up around 9 and we do cereal / apples mixed with 1 oz formula, then he gets the rest of that bottle after his cereal. He eats "dinner" around 5/530 and gets his last bottle at bed time around 630.
Re: First solid foods..
Sorry mixture of hurried typing and auto correct. Good thing you still knew what I meant!
+ is there special baby cereal or do you use adult beands?
Thanks!
