What do you guys do with your LO?

Leyla is 6 weeks old and my mom slowly stopped coming by so I can be with my baby (in my "culture" my mother is supposed to stay with me for 40 days to help out so she came by for 40 days)
My question is, not to sound dumb, but what do you guys do with your babes? Or is being in the house and having her sleep the norm?

Re: What do you guys do with your LO?

  • My LO doesn't sleep much during the day (5weeks) even though I would like for her to sleep some. But I talk to her (narrate what I'm doing), make funny faces at her, have tummy time, wear her, lay her under play gym with sounds and lights. Basically if she's awake and in a content mood I try to mildly stimulate her. But if I can tell she's tired I try to get her to sleep.

  • Same as what pp said. I'll sit her on my legs and talk to just relax with her
  • Same as above. I wish my mom could be here more often, I'm jealous! She took a few days off last week and it was so nice to have the help..
  • It's been really nice here weather-wise, so we have been going for walks and spending time outside, too.

  • Basically whatever I can do to keep her from screaming and keep her near me so my 2 year old doesn't accidentally crush/choke/mangle her. Honestly I feel kinda bad this time around cause I don't spend much time just focusing on her like I did my older one, and I think I rely on the pacifier to calm her way too much. At the same time though this one is getting a lot more experiences she didn't at such a young age- library storytime, lots of trips to the park, etc... I wear her in a carrier pretty much any time we are out of the house, so she is still getting that snuggle time if not my undivided attention. Whenever she is awake and my toddler is sleeping we sit and talk on the couch usually with her on my lap or we do tummy time. When my toddler is awake, we do some floor play together, read books together, or she is sitting in the pack n play or bouncer nearby while I'm doing whatever with my toddler. I put her to bed at night (bath, nursing, cuddling, rocking) while my husband has my 2 year old (usually outside playing), so we get one on one time that way.

With my first daughter during this time period I did a whole lot of bouncing on the exercise ball with her trying to get her to stop screaming. I don't remember much else - she was a very high needs reflux baby.
  • I use my Pandora radio app a lot to play music for DD. Lullabies, classical music, nature sounds, or soft rock or whatever. She usually turns her head towards it so I know she's listening.

I try putting her in her bouncer or swing sometimes but about 5-10 minutes later she cries. Oh well. Usually I'm holding her anyway.
  • We are always on the go. Visiting family, walks, shopping etc. he is a great baby. I make sure that we spend a few hours on the couch just looking at each other though

We spend a lot of time face to face too! And now shes always smiling at me and started cooing a lot as of yesterday! I love it!
  • Thanks for your input ladies! I was making sure I was doing the right things . Im not ready to pack her into the car alone with her yet, but we do go to the park as well when the weather permits. I love her cooe's and now she's saying "dah" .... I think "dah-dah" is coming out of her mouth soon =) hopefully she'll say "ma-ma" soon too. And do you guys get to do any housework? I'm struggling doing anything because as soon as I put her down, she wakes up with her beautiful smile followed by a cry if I don't pick her up asap lol

Hubby left for class so I decided to give DD a bath by myself for the first time... Now my back is on fire (I've got a horrible back) and I stumped my toe really hard when I went to put her in her towel. :((

I guess that counts as getting something done? lol
  • He goes everywhere I go! Today we went to Target, the mall, the car wash and Starbucks. Then we came home and he laid in his bouncer for a while, then tummy time, and now I'm just holding him.

Oh no!! Hope your back gets better! ! I'm not ready to give Leyla a bath alone EVER. she's to squirmy and moves her head around alot. And while she can hold it for the most part, I'm still scared
  • @gulimz Somebody gave us a foam baby mat/cushion to set inside her little tub and it really helps keep them upright! Well, leaning up anyway. And they don't slide. You can get them about anywhere I think. But it also still helps to have another set of hands lol

Are you using a baby bathtub? We struggled the first time we used ours because DD kept sliding down the seat. Then I discovered that if I fold up a towel and place that in the water on the reclining seat before I set her in the water, it makes things so much easier!! It keeps her from sliding on the hard plastic. Occasionally the towel will slip a little, but then I'm able to just pull the towel up and back into place while supporting her. It's super easy.
  • We go for walks, run errands (Target!), I try to narrate what I'm doing when im putzing around the house with laundry or whatever... Some tummy time... If we're both bored or she's really fussy I'll put on my Beyoncé Pandora station and we dance around... But really, between changing her, bathing her, and trying to keep her from screaming her head off, we dont have time for a ton!

This is me too. Between DS1 who is 4 and autistic and my 3 nephews I just do not have as much time as I did with DS1. I try to get in as much play/tummy time in as I can while the older kids are at school but DS1 only goes to preschool for 3 hours and LO always wants to sleep around that time it seems.
  • I agree with a lot above. We also have fun when I play with his feet or hands. It definitely entertains him!
  • She does basically whatever I do unless she's sleeping. In our neighborhood the mailboxes are at the front and we live in the back so we take a nice long walk there each day. Sometimes we go visit daddy for lunch, play, sleep, tummy time, read. She's been staying up more during the day so I'm taking full advantage of our time together before I go back to work next week (ahhh :( )
