April 2016 Moms

Food Aversions/Sex of Baby

I read in the copious information from my doctor a blurb that said women who experience food aversions early on in pregnancy more likely to be carrying boys. I have a two year old son and this pregnancy feels almost identical. I gag just opening the refrigerator thinking about food, I have to choke down water (and I am a huge water drinker), salad and fresh vegetables (some of my normal favorites) sound repulsive. I mostly want comfort food and junk with is the opposite of my normal diet.

Anyone else have thoughts about food aversions in relation to the baby's sex?

Re: Food Aversions/Sex of Baby

  • I don't have any idea but I normally eat a very healthy diet and the thought of veggies make me cringe.  I've been eating a ton of sweets (which I normally don't eat) and fried food.  I do still want to eat fruit- so luckily the baby is getting something good. ;)

  • I'm eating really healthy, lots of fruit and veggies but lots of sweeties too. Which makes me think girl as I was a mac and cheese and pizza type with boys.
  • I think aversions are common regardless of the sex of the baby... but we shall see. Had them with my first and he was a boy. Have them again and don't know what I'm having,

  • I had a lot of aversions when my DD. I have even more this time around, not sure what I'm having yet though. Will know in just a couple weeks!

  • I am going to say they are normal with any pregnancy. With DD I still had aversion and severe texture issues. It wasnt nearly as bad as this time around. Meat cooking just sends me over the edge.

  • I couldn't prep/clean up meals in 1st tri when pregnant with DS. Had no problems with my DDs. No problems with this one, but we're team green.

  • I had aversions with my son, but with him I could still stomach carbs and sweets, like cinnamon buns and bagels. Now, I'm pretty much disgusted by anything...especially sweets. I don't know if this means I'm having a girl, or if it just means that this baby is kind of mean. Haha

  • @Bootsie327 were you on May 14 bmb? Your sn seems familiar! Congrats on baby #2!
  • This was in a pamphlet from your doctor???? Seriously? Lol can you take a photo and post? I am super curious now. I am pretty sure pregnancy symptoms have 0% correlation to sex. Or actually 50% correlation lol.

  • I can't even begin to play this game.  I have two boys and each pregnancy was totally different.  My first was easy, peasy.  No morning sickness, no pain, no food aversions, no cramping... it was the perfect pregnancy.  My second, however, I was throwing up all the time, was sore, ate everything in sight, my hips were killing me... I swore it was a girl just because of how different the pregnancy was.

I guess my point is there's really no way to tell, except with an ultrasound.  Even then, it's not 100%.

    Baby #2 due 4/26/16!

  • I have given birth to 5 boys up to this point and each of those 4 pregnancies were completely different. I had no sickness or food aversions with DS1 or DS2, but with DS3 couldn't eat anything I typically love. I'm experiencing the same this time around and am literally living on pasta. I really don't think their is a correlation in the amount of sickness experienced or food aversions and the baby's sex.

It was a blurb in one of the parenting magazines that was in the packet. The rational was that boy fetuses are more fragile and evolutionary women have became more sensitive to potentially harmful situations (i.e. food poisioning).
