I've had it-- So worried

A few weeks back I posted about my marginal placenta previa and polyhydramnios (too much amniotic fluid). Today I went for a follow up ultrasound at 24 weeks to check the fluid level and see if my placenta has moved. Fluid is the same, still high, and the placenta has barely moved up half a centimeter. On top of those worries that have consumed my mind for the past several weeks, I was also told the baby has an echogenic bowel, which means part of his intestines appear white like bone, which they shouldn't. There are a number of things that can cause this... Cystic fibrosis, Down's syndrome, trisomy 18/21 (doing more tests on those, but initially was very low risk and no other markers have been found), an infection like toxoplasmosis, or an intestinal blockage. Some of the time it's nothing and clears up on its own. Of course I started crying uncontrollably when the doctor told me this today. I just can't take any more worrying and I know it's not good for the baby. With my first pregnancy 2 years ago I had no issues whatsoever. I like to be fully I formed so of course I looked up more info on this when I got home-- some was reassuring and some was definitely not (fetal death in severe cases). With my placenta and fluid issues I'm already at risk for preterm labor, placental abruption, cord prolapse, plus other things, and now this.... The good news is that my baby appears to have a grade one diagnosis, which is "very mild," as the doctor put it. Has anyone else gone through this before? What was the outcome?

  • I am so, so sorry you're going through all of this. Have you seen the high risk board? It's under "pregnancy", then "high risk." You may be able to find some more info there, if no one here is able to help out. Hope you are able to find some answers and that things begin to look better for you & LO!
  • Oh boy! That sounds like a lot to be carrying around. It's normal to worry. Maybe let yourself try and put that heavy weight down for an hour tonight and take a minute for yourself. Do something you enjoy. You can pick up your worry again later. I'm sorry.
  • I know the feeling. With my first pregnancy there were zero issues. This time they found chyroid plexus cysts on the brain, which could be something or nothing. Still made me cry hysterically, since I can't know for sure without extensive testing that the doctors aren't recommending at this time. They had me come in again and found the same thing. Now I have to go in again in a couple more weeks, I'm so nervous to go to ultrasounds now. With my first I only had one and now I have had three and dread more.

Just try to remember that stay as calm as possible and take breaks from thinking about it. I'm sorry you are going through this.

Uggg I'm so sorry. I'm facing a similar emotional battle. First pregnancy zero hiccups, 2 ultrasounds that's it, straightforward. This pregnancy, 4 ultrasounds, 1 more to come because fluid in kidneys was found and an EIF. So my risk for downs baby is in hundreds now vs thousands. It's not that I am afraid of having a downs baby, it's being completely informed and understanding what to expect. Too much risk to do amnio at this stage, so the least I asked for was the free cell DNA test, or Called Harmony. Either way it's definitely frustrating and worrisome, when you are not given that clarity, just having so many unknowns. So I can understand how you are feeling. Not the same, but similar, so feel free to pm me and vent or whatever you need.
  • Thanks all for your support and well wishes. @alandaim I'm sorry for what you're going through too. I absolutely hate the waiting between appointments. By the time I go in I've usually calmed my panic down and felt more positive, but then every single time I've been told a new, additional problem. I definitely get the dreading appointments. Good luck to you guys! @CBWifey have you had the fluid and EIF confirmed on other ultrasounds? Is that something that can clear up on its own? I hate how we never know what's causing the problem. It could be a or b, or c, or it could be nothing. This is awful. I hope the best for you!
  • @MamaGooGoo they were possibly seen at anatomy scan and they asked me to come back for another ultrasound to confirm. Weren't straightforward at the anatomy scan. Just told me to come back. So I was kind of upset about that. Thanks for your support :)
  • I don't have any advice but I will be thinking about you and wishing for the best for you and baby.
  • Prayers and positive thoughts, mama
