It depends on your insurance. Pumps are covered but it doesn't always mean it's for free, you may have to pay some out of pocket expense. Typically, you should contact your insurance and ask them how to go about it. Many insurance companies won't let you order before you hit a certain time frame in your pregnancy and some won't allow it until after you deliver.
For me, once I ordered mine it arrived in 3-5 days.
My insurance covered $160 of the cost. I had to get a prescription for a pump from my doctor, pay for the pump up front, file a claim for it, and then they reimbursed me the $160. Anything over that I paid for out of pocket. I also couldn't order mine until 30 days before my due date. Just call the Customer Service number on your insurance card and ask! It was a lifesaver!
My insurance covered the pump completely I just needed a script from my doctor. I went to the medical supply store they told me to go to and had the pump within minutes. It was an easy process for me.
I just ordered mine yesterday! I called, they gave me the medical supply company to call. I told them what I wanted (they cover only two choices but at full cost) had my doctor fax in a prescription and its in the mail! Its super easy! They said if I don't have it in 10 days to call them and they will give me a voucher to go to any store that sells them to buy it.
Nothing in life is free. If you pay for insurance, you are paying for your pump. If you don't pay for your insurance, someone else is paying more to cover your pump. Call your insurance. Every insurance plan is different.
I calley my insurance, they told me it was covered 100% and gave me a list of places to order from online. Most places offered the same options. I went with yummy mummy.Com and ordered a Medela pump. My dr. had written a prescription, but the website didn't ask for it directly. They did ask for my dr info, so they may have verified my need before they sent it. It arrived 3 days later. Couldn't have been easier!
Aeroflow is awesome. You go on their website, give them your insurance info, they deal with the insurance nonsense and then let you know what you qualify for free and what extras you can add. They'll also tell you when you can order, since that differs based on insurance. Highly recommend!
I bought the medela freestyle and it was covered. My insurance will cover $300 max with a prescription from doctor. I was out of pocket $17. I am in Canada.
I can't remember the site name, I'll post it if I find it, but you input your insurance info and it will email you the list of pumps you qualify for receiving through insurance. I did that but couldn't order since it has to be within a certain time frame. My big question is how did everyone decide which one to order?
I went through Breast Pump Solutions ( Babies R Us) . It was actually really easy ! I spoke with them on the phone , they took all of my info, they called my insurance company to see if I was approved, once approved they sent me an email with the pumps I'm covered for. I just had to get my dr. to fax over an RX to the company and 2 days later I received my pump in the mail. I ended up picking a Medela pump. After speaking with a few friends/ family members they all highly recommended the Medela pump. Below is the link to the website! Good luck
I'm insured through Blue Cross Blue Shield. They covered a Medela PISA completely (I could have also chosen the Ameda Purely Yours), it was a quick phone call to my insurance and it arrived a week later.
Mine was free through my insurance. It was kind of a pain in the butt to get it though. My insurance company told me to order it 2 months in advance, so I did, and then the dr wouldn't sign off on it...had to go back and forth to talk to them. When I talked to my actual OB she said that they don't sign off on it until after delivery but she went ahead and signed off on it anyway. I got it 3 days later. I'm due in 2 weeks and 2 days. Its nice to have gotten it beforehand. I was able to clean everything and read the manual
Mine is also free through my insurance, however every insurance company and within that every plan is different. I can get a manual one from any store and submit an itemized receipt to the insurance and get it for free. I can also get a script for my doctor and they will send one out that I can rent that is a hospital grade one but because I have an HMO I need a referral from my OBGYN. The best thing you could probably do is call your insurance company and ask them what the new benefits are for your specific plan and I would also if you have an HMO I will call your medical group.
I'm covered through my insurance 100%, I get medical through my state. But I can't order it until I'm 37 weeks (unless I deliver before) & I have to return it within a year. Not sure why I have to return it but it is a double electrical one and it comes with all accessories. And I know those are crazy expensive. Just call your insurance and they will tell you if they provide it, and if not they may be able to provide resources to get one. Also try WIC, they usually can give you a manual single pump. Not the greatest thing but it is something.
I went through Aeroflow and the process couldn't have been easier. I filled out a short online form with my insurance info. They verified what was covered by my insurance company (BCBS), called me with the info in 4 days. I chose my pump and received it in about a week. They have snug selection of pumps. (They had the Spectra 1 I wanted, other companies didn't.). You can also choose to "upgrade" what your insurance will provide and they tell you the price difference. When I called BCBS myself all they did was give me the name of 145 DME providers and couldn't even tell me which ones actually carried pumps, so much easier to let Aeroflow deal with BCBS.

I've had the same experience. Expected it to be more difficult but it was simple. Call your insurance company first and they'll get you on the right track depending on your coverage.
My insurance will cover 100% only if I go through a doctor in-network or use one of their 3 suggested retailers. Also the earliest I can order/buy a pump is 30 days before my expected due date.

If you have a Babies R Us near you, you can go through Breast Pump Solutions. Its on their website. It was SUPER easy!!! I received mine in the mail, 2 days after my dr. sent in a prescription.
I got online with regence and they gave me the medical equipment places they cover, called and ordered it, and it was here in two days. Easy process but go with caution as they said I didn't have to meet my high deductible for it first and it turns out I got a huge bill for it.

After reading your comment I checked out Aeroflow and they just shipped out a breast pump that my insurance covered 100%! I am so glad I read your comment! I would highly recommend them as well. I can't believe how simple that was!
Aero flow is the best company to use they are so helpful and easy and I got my breastpump within days of ordering plus they are sending some extra storage containers too! Great company!
Agree with PP that Aero flow was a great experience! All I did was email them my name and health insurance information a few months ago, they contacted me 30 days before my due date to confirm my address and type of pump I wanted and they mailed it a day later. I got it on Tuesday and they followed up again in email to make sure I got it! So easy!
I'm 26+1 and I have Tricare. My doctor wrote me a prescription and gave me a list of who I can get one through. I was able to do it online. I filled out what I needed to and emailed them my script. They called today and I should get it this week. (I ordered it yesterday).
I'm going through this right now. My insurance won't actually let me have one sent until after the baby is born. I find this super frustrating, since I'm planning on pumping/ FF supplementing exclusively. I'm going to ask my midwife for the pump Rx at my appt next week, and it looks like the rest of it is straightforward- I can fill out the online info, fax in the script, and then the pump is 'preordered'. Once we notify the company that the baby is born, they will ship it to us.
I went through aeroflow online since I couldn't find any local durable medical equipment providers that sold breast pumps. I filled out a form with my contact and insurance information and it took them 4 days to call me back and confirm that my insurance week cover a free pump. That was actually yesterday. I confirmed I wanted the Spectra S2 and got an email confirmation today saying it shipped already and due for delivery tomorrow. It really doesn't get any easier than that and I am super excited to get this pump after reading all the great reviews about it!
I called my insurance who gave me 2 websites, both offered different pumps. Online process was easy and it took 2 weeks to arrive. Only annoying thing was the site I chose spent 3 days and 4 emails trying to convince me to get a rechargeable battery ( at a cost). Had to click decline everytime. No script was needed and covered at 100%.
