Although uncomfortable/crampy for the day, I did go straight to work and resumed normal activity right away. I took Aleve that morning but that was it. It is a super quick procedure but definitely caught me off guard as it did hurt - just breathe through it!
I resumed normal activities. It's uncomfortable, but its over pretty quick. My IUIs are more painful and have more residual crampiness than the HSG did.
I was so scared about the HSG, but it was way easier than I thought it would be. It's a little crampy, but over fast. I have had endometrial biopsies before and they were much harder than the HSG. I took Ibuprofen before I went for my test and was fine for the rest of the day.
Slightly painful but quick. I also took motrin 1 hr before and had it done during my lunch hour. Went back to work after. FYI...did have a bit a leakage for the first hour after HSG and spotting for about 36 hrs. GL!

Mine was completely painless, minus the cramping when the catheter was first put in. The dye push, however, was painless which I understand is not always the case for every woman.
I echo PPs and suggest 800mg of ibuprofen an hour before the procedure and bring a pad with you. My RE had some available but yours may not.

Yah agreed with the other posters, I got really freaked out over the horror stories I heard prior to my hsg but it honestly was not that bad. Yes it's a bit uncomfortable but it's over so quick it's no big deal. Good luck!
I was slightly crampy after but it wasn't that bad. I was also slightly sore from the catheter. I had taken the day off work just in case so I laid on the couch and relaxed. I think I would have been a little uncomfortable sitting at a desk all day, but I could have done it if I had to.
My fear was worst than the pain. I made the mistake of reading too much about people saying it was horrible. It isn't comforable. I don't want to ever do it again. But for me it felt like icky period cramping when they pushed the die in. When it was over I felt fine. I planned to take the day off and I just watched movies. I could have worked but I was emotionally charged so it was nice to just do nothing the rest of the day. Good luck to you. ☺
I think it's different for everyone and depends on where you get it done. I had mine done before seeing a RE at a hospital and thought it was extremely painful. I don't think I ever felt pain like that before. I cramped for a couple days after.
My RE said if I got it done with him I wouldn't have been in so much pain. I guess it depends on the technology and the experience. At my RE office, they probably do hundreds a month. I'm sure they don't do as many at the hospital I went to.
It hurt so much I passed out. But I also found out that I had blocked tubes. It was horrible. I went alone and could barely walk. It took all day to recover. I thought it would be like all these ladies described. Some cramps and I would be fine. Just recently I had a fem view which is less invasive and I still passed out. Only one blocked tube. Pain was over when I woke back up. However I was nauseous for the rest of the day. Hope yours is quick and easy. Just don't go alone that was my mistake.
