Upper lip tie

After 4 weeks of excruciating pain during nursing, cracked nipples, and a bout of thrush, I discovered LO has an upper lip tie causing her poor latch. So tomorrow we are taking her to get it revised. Does anyone have stories of successful breastfeeding after an upper lip tie revision? I guess I'm just nervous to go have my daughter cut on and what if breastfeeding still isn't successful.

    My daughter had an upper lip tie and a posterior tongue tie that we had lasered when she was 13 days old. It definitely helped with her latch once this was done. She has become a more effective eater but wasn't gaining weight well even after having this done. My supply isn't quite enough for her, so we are combination feeding now.
    You will likely notice a difference within the first couple days. She may be a bit fussy and frustrated at first because she is going to have to learn to latch again...

    My daughter had an upper lip tie and a posterior tongue tie. We had it lasted when she was 5 weeks. It was done at a pediatric dentist office and our insurance covered a portion of it. During the procedure she was fussy. It took about three minutes. But after she fell asleep and was fine. She seemed fussier then normal for a few days after and we have her a couple doses of Tylenol which seemed to help. As far as her latching, that is something we are still working on. She is about ten days out and we can definitely see an improvement. But I agree with pp, that is something they have to learn how to do all over again. I will say that the mouth exercises that they give us to do are starting to weigh on me. I will

    THere is actually a facebook group specifically for lip and tongue tie support in my state (OK). You might check in your own. My OD had one but we didn't know till she was older. I had joined in anticipation of our second having one, but fortunately she doesn't

    My son had an upper lip tie that was just clipped Monday. He's fussy at first when he latches but once he's on, it's so much better. Still have some pain but my LC said its because my nipples need to readjust. He's doing well so far.

    DD2 had a lip tie and tongue tie that was reversed last Thursday. We had a preferred provider (dentist) do the procedure via laser. It only took about 3 min. She latched right in the office and was able to transfer 2 oz of milk in barely any time. The day before she could only transfer a little more than 0.5 oz with a visit with a IBCLC in over 40 min. We are still working on latch because sometimes she doesn't want to get as deep as she should but I noticed a difference right away in my nipple soreness. We were told to do the stretches for at least 5 weeks after revision. DD hates the stretches but I know they need done and it's necessary. We have been medicating her with Tylenol as needed when she appears to be in pain before during or after a feed. But she is much happier now after a feeding so I am very happy we had it done.     Glad to hear the successes from upper lip tie corrections! Our little one also has an upper lip tie but my husband and I have decided to not correct it right now. It only effects BF, which we are struggling with. However, we don't want to put our little one thru the correction at this point. We feel we will just go to bottle feeding if necessary before we do anything more extreme. I do hope we can achieve success BF tho (we're at 4weeks, 2 days). Best wishes to your little one!

    Thank you so much ladies! She had an upper lip tie, tongue tie, and buckle ties (where the cheeks connect to the gums). Today we got her lip and tongue ties cut and she is sooo much happier already and nursing way better. The dentist just told us to keep an eye on her buckle ties but they aren't as crucial as tongue and lip.

    I was going to say we had our daughters cut also. It made quite a bit of difference.

    My DD had a posterior tongue and upper tie as well. The ENT clipped it in her office and she was able to latch on right away! There was minimal bleeding and I haven't noticed any since. She was just a week old at the time. In terms of pain or being uncomfortable, she was fine the rest of the night and sleep just as well as she had been before. We're still doing the exercises- the ENT said we can be done with the lip ones bit to keep up the tongue stretches.

    When making out decision about the procedure, the ENT did tell us if we left her lip tie alone, it would definetly cause a gap between her baby teeth and possible a gap in her adult teeth. So it may impact more than just breastfeeding.

    We were instructed to do the stretches for 3 weeks and have a follow up appointment at that time...
