Walking causing contractions

To start off I'm due Oct 1st, 9 days away as of tomorrow . During my pregnancy I've been lucky to spend alot of time relaxing and lounging. At work, I sit at a desk which is SO UNCOMFORTABLE and leads to back pain/ contractions after only 3 hours.

Most interesting to me is when I spend any extended time walking I start contracting so hard, also painlessly, yet very uncomfortable. Grocery store/errands/housework are most common scenarios. The other day I spent 4 hours slowly walking through comic con which I was contracting through the entire time until I got home and put my feet up. I have a day planned to attend the New England fair on thursday one week before EDD and DH and I made a plan if I'm contracting and uncomfortable he may rent & push me on a wheel chair so I can keep up.

Sorry for the lengthy unexciting post. Just curious if anyone is experiencing this as well. I feel it may be because I spend as much time as I can with my feet up relaxing, and can't help but ask if I should become a little more active as I don't have much time left.

Re: Walking causing contractions

  • Yes, it happens to me too. Mostly when I am a bit dehydrated and tired though.

I always make sure I'm drinking plenty and then in turn using the bathroom plenty lol. And as far as tired goes I get so tired from walking around so quick!

  • @Rikki_5 tell me about it! I have my last two days of work, then a day at the fair, then I'm off for a week before baby. The days really seem to be dragging but I'm okay with it. As much as I would love baby to show up any day now.. I have some crochet projects I just started & still could use time to prep freezer meals.

  • @AndreaBiel  Kudos for you working up till the end.  I quit my job a month ago.  I don't know how you do it!! Good luck with your labor & delivery :)

  • I have this! When I walk too briskly or if I go up a hill for example, I get painful contractions. The other day at Walmart I actually got cramps/contractions all across my tummy and back and it was bad enough that I had to rest in the shoe section lol. As soon as I rest they go away- how about you guys?
  • I have nothing to contribute, but COMIC CON! I'm very jealous lol. ;)
  • I'm glad to know I'm not alone! It definitely subsides as soon as I get to rest @wcm2b.

@Rikki_5 I would barely call it working lol i mentally quit over a month ago and have called out or left early at least twice a week for the last 2 months. But I do appreciate the kudos!
@cmjn94 yes second comic con in a month lucky me :) huge art fan, mostly pick up prints when we go. This time got to pose with a jeep from jurassic park !

I get them too! My mom and I went out this past Sunday shopping. We were out alllllllll day. I didn't tell her I was having contractions only because I was enjoying myself to much. It was nice to be out of the house with her before LO arrives and last few weekends seems like I'm always cleaning. Was nice just to get out and shop. By the end of the day my feet were elephant size and I hurt all over lol but it was worth it. I don't wanna work anymore. I just wanna go have fun, or sleep. Really wishing I had more leave to just take off now before LO arrives lol.
  • I had this with my first pregnancy, too. I told DH that I think it's related to the movement itself because I could run without triggering contractions, but even moderate walking would make me cramp up. It was so odd to me! I don't spend a lot of time relaxing and lounging during pregnancy, and I still have that issue, so I think there's more relationship to how our body moves when walking than overall activity level.

  • yeah, Oct 2 due date and I find walking definitely gets the contractions going. they are getting increasingly uncomfortable. my husband and i were going to walk 6 blocks to a festival last saturday but we turned around and went home after 2 because i kept having to stop. once i put my feet up and drank some water i was fine. then when we went grocery shopping on sunday i honestly thought i might be going into labor but again once i sat down i was fine. still have some stuff to accomplish this week but hubby is excited and wants to go on a long walk this weekend lol.
  • It's definitely getting harder. I'm not as far along, 36 weeks. However, I have 3 12-hour shifts at work coming up this weekend and I am not looking forward to it...
  • I'm 37wks and have this too! Constant contractions/braxton hicks when I'm moving about or sitting in a particular position for too long but once I lay down, they seem to go away. I just think this is how it's going to be from here on out!
  • I'm glad I'm not alone, because I'm so tired of contractions from sitting and walking. Laying down is my only comfort!
  • This happens to me too! I've been active before getting pregnant and all throughout, but even at 20 weeks or so id get Braxton hicks while walking or at the store. I'm a nurse and yesterday at work I contemplated seriously laying on the hallway floor, I just couldn't go another step!
  • Today I was out shopping again for like 4 hours.  I feel like I'm addicted to shopping lately..anyway after I went grocery shopping (my last of 3 stores) I felt really clammy and started sweating like crazy.  I was having crazy contractions and thought I was going into labor.  A lady asked me if I was okay and got me a bottle of water to drink...I felt better after I drank the water but felt really weird until I got home.  I'm still not in labor but it was very weird!  I think I'm just gonna stay home from here on out...lol

  • Due 10/1 also and walking more than a few houses gets contractions going as well. Hubs and I have started walking nightly to kick start labor but when I get home and lay down and drink water everything stops.
  • I'm 37 weeks and I've been dealing with this for a few weeks now. The grocery store is the worst. Also, standing up to cook or do dishes. Everything takes twice as long now because I have to rest. At first I figured I was just dehydrated, but now it doesn't matter how much water I drink - it's bound to happen. My legs and feet are swelling up like crazy too!
  • Yea like I get contractions to and yea just stay hydrated and always bring a bottle of water when you go out..I realize that if I don't drink water that's when all the bad stuff starts to happen and ruins my day and yea walking is getting hard for me too ..I almost passed out walking 2 blocks but like they say try to stay active with walking even tho it's hard to move around being so big and carrying so much wait
