What is this feeling in my stomach

I am going to describe the feeling the best I can lol!

Lately I've been getting these tight feelings in my stomach. Its like a quick tight feeling and it doesn't hurt, it just surprises me and scares me lol. When I'm laying down and I get ready to sit up. Its like a tight..."pump" feeling. Idk if I should have used the work pump but it's a quick tight feeling in thr stomach. I am 17 weeks by the way, thank you for your help!

  • Could be early Braxton Hicks contractions. Have you talked to your doctor?

  • Sounds like BH! I get them very often this time around, almost on a daily basis.

  • It recently started and I haven't spoken to the dr yet.
  • Is it normal and is it okay to have at 17 weeks? It doesn't hurt at all
  • Yeah, it's normal. Unfortunately some people experience them for months before actually having a baby. If they don't hurt I wouldn't be too worried, but mention them to your doc next time you see him/her and he or she can confirm.

  • Sounds like Braxton Hix. I started getting them with DS1 around 20 weeks--they did get stronger as the pregnancy went on. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and putting your feet up when you can, I found that it sometimes helped. Went to the doctor several times thinking I was going into labor---but nope, that wasn't the case.

  • Yep, sounds like BH.  I get them and sometimes with hot flashes.  Not painful but just tightening.  I'm pretty sure it is normal as I've had them for a few weeks now and w/ each pregnancy.

  • Sounds like Braxton Hicks to me. I've been having them sporadically, too. Be sure you're drinking enough water!

  • Ya I have the same thing! Had Braxton hicks starting around 17 weeks with my twins and up until I delivered. As long as they aren't painful or timeable they aren't anything to worry about. You can take a warm bath and drink lots of water to keep them down a bit

  • Yup Braxton hicks! Mine started earlier with each baby. They are diff than labor contractions in my opinion but non the less just sort of annoying. I get them once in a while and I'm usually sitting. Fun! Haha

  • Thank you all for the help! I have an appointment soon so I will mention this :D
  • What you're describing sounds to me more like round ligament pain. (But I haven't experienced Braxton Hicks yet, so it's hard to say)

Web MD says - Round ligament pain can be concerning and uncomfortable. But it is considered normal as your body changes during pregnancy.

The symptoms of round ligament pain include a sharp, sudden spasm in the belly. It usually affects the right side, but it may happen on both sides. The pain only lasts a few seconds.

Exercise may cause the pain, as will rapid movements such as:
