Nipple thrush

My lo had his 1 month today and I told the doc I thought he had thrush. He does and they sent in the prescription. My doctor then asked if I had nipple thrush. Since I didn't notice anything looking different I said no, but now that I'm actually doing research on what it is I'm thinking I may have it. There are no external signs but my breasts do hurt a lot after feedings and sometimes I get a sharp pain during feedings. Anyone think this is thrush? Any home remedies or otc that have worked?

Sorry that my grammar is off and I seem a bit scattered. We have been up for almost 24 hours straight.

Re: Nipple thrush

  • You can get very painful burning and shooting pains within the boob with thrush. Treatment is either topical or with fluconazole tablets. Did your doctor take swabs or give you a prescription?

  • No, I didn't really think too much about the nipple thrush until around 4 this afternoon when I was nursing and felt the sharp pain that I occasionally get when nursing. By the time I put two and two together they were closed. I'll call them tomorrow and they can probably call in a prescription but it's such a pain to get to the pharmacy if there is a way to take care of it at home.
  • How did you know your LO had thrush? I'm kind of wondering if I have nipple thrush myself since they are painful at times...if it's not one thing it's another.

Haha I understand completely. Jack had a couple white spots on the inside of his lip for a couple days but no other physical signs. Looking back now, he was really fussy with the bottle and harder to latch comfortably on the nipple. Yesterday I noticed the roof of his mouth was white and today I noticed some spots on his tongue. I feel like once I noticed it was thrush the symptoms developed quickly.
  • I'm normally all for home remedies but in this case I'd definitely get the prescription.  If you do have it, then it needs to be treated at the same time as your LO or else you'll just pass it back and forth.
