Second Intro

Hi ladies,
I'm pretty sure I introd here earlier this year but haven't been active so now reintroing myself as our situation has changed.

I'm Kelly, 31, with a 2.5 year old daughter. My husband and I started trying for our 2nd in Jan. of this year and after 3 months of no luck got him checked out as he'd had a hernia repair surgery a few years ago and knew there was a risk of blockage.

Long story short, found out he had no sperm due to this, urologist was hopeful a surgery could fix this and completed what looked like a successful surgery in July. Found out at post op appointment that there is a 2nd blockage that can't be fixed so we are left with our only option of IVF.

We go in end of Oct for our first RE appointment and hope to do IVF in jan-feb when I switch to my insurance which will cover 2/3 of one cycle. We can afford one fresh, one frozen or possibly 2 fresh (if I can convince my husband). Multiples also freak my husband out but I wouldn't be opposed to twins.

Our daughter is getting older every day and I pray this works as our family doesn't feel complete.

Looking forward to joining this group!

Hello again! And welcome back. I remember about your DH and I'm sorry he has another blockage. :(

Was the urologist able to get any sperm out while he was in there for surgery? Or is there a different plan for how to do IVF?

    Thanks everyone!

nB817, they saw plenty of healthy sperm in the vas and testicle during surgery but we did not save any because both the Dr and we were very optimistic, plus at the time we were not even considering IVF (funny how things change). I'm okay though because I've been reading a lot about issues with thawing testicle sperm and quality due to it being immature. I'm really hoping we can coordinate it so urologist can do TESE or TESA the day of or before egg retrieval so the sperm is fresh. Both of us recovering along with a toddler will be fun but oh well, try to get help from my parents. Want to give us our best odds of healthy embryos!

You're dealing with MFI too right? How are things going for you?

Ahhh I see! That makes sense and I really hope they can get some the day before. I was just worried that they would now need to slice your DHs nut open to get some. (sorry a bit graphic, but that was how it was explained to us by fertility urologist if we ran out of frozen sperm to use)

Yes we MFI and only have frozen sperm to use. FX that it all works for you guys! Just curious what did the research say about using frozen sperm? Is it too immature to reach the egg and fertilize it? Or something else?

I've read articles and seen some info on resolve message boards about frozen testicle sperm in particular being immature and not surviving the thaw well. The best possible retrieval is MESA but it's too late for that (we're not spending thousands and having them go back in). We asked our urologist about it and he said our clinic will tell us they see the same success from frozen as fresh but I'm not buying it. Plus, we know he produces so there's no risk of them going in day of and finding nothing...but we'll see what happens!
