December 2015 Moms

Totally silly question

This silly to ask, but how did you dress your baby to come home? For the FTMS how will you dress baby to come home?

I'm curious, do people buy full little outfits like pants and shirts, or dresses? Will you do the onesie and some leggings/stretchy pants? Body suits? STMs and MTMs is there a method to this? Especially with out babies being born in December.

Re: Totally silly question

  • We already got her home coming outfit. We couldn't resist we were at Target and it was on sale :) we also have a coat and are trying to find a good blanket, we only live five minutes from the hospital though so we aren't too worried. It's just a pair of gray leggings with a white shirt that says 'Today is the best day ever.' With a little bird on the left shoulder and a bow across the midsection :)

  • This is not a silly question at all! I'll be shopping for my little girls coming home outfit soon! I'll probably just look for something warm since it will be freezing here, nothing too fancy. :)
  • I'm not going to do anything fancy. My sister got my nephew the cutest little outfit and before they could leave he spit up all over it so they had to change him. I'll probably just do a sleeper and her cute little fuzzy coat
  • I am definitely planning a going home outfit. With DS, he was born 5 weeks early and spent time in the NICU. We didn't know it was homecoming day until we arrived at the hospital one morning and they let us know. We put him in one of the outfits he had been wearing in the NICU.

Getting something like this. I can't wait!! Comfy but totally cute!! image

Something that I like about this going home outfit is the open feet. Many hospitals keep an electronic bracelet around baby's ankle until they check out. Mom and Dad have to show ID and it needs to match the info in baby's ankle bracelet before they will remove it to allow you to leave the maternity floor. This is the last thing they do when you check out, even after baby is buckled in the car seat. Foot-in style sleepers don't work well if your hospital uses the ankle bracelet b/c you would have to undress the baby just to take it off.
  • Long sleeve onsie, pants, socks, beanie. Same outfit for when my son was born. We live in Phoenix though, so it won't be as cold as many places. Add a sweater to the mix and you'll be good.
  • I think the only thing you have to do is something without a waistband so their belly buttons don't get aggravates.
  • DD was born at the end of summer but she stayed for 3 weeks in the hospital. By the time we took her home she was still only 5lbs. I did put her in her going home outfit but she was swimming in it. I wanted something super soft, comfy but also special. I had an outfit of the softest cotton by Barefoot Dreams - just a kimono and soft pants. Since this baby will be born in colder months I'm thinking again comfy but sweet - just nothing pink :) May add a blanket or sweater. She'll have mostly her sister's clothing but I want her going home outfit to be just hers.
  • For all 3 of my kids I had something similar to what @kristen2b posted. I have saved all 3 of them. Plan on doing the same for this baby. Sumple. Open feet, no waist band, and a cap, and socks.
  • I am not sure with this one what he is wearing home. DD wore a cute shirt and pants but it was the end of August. My only suggestion is to bring a newborn outfit and a 3 month outfit since you don't know how big your LO will be and if the newborn will fit.

  • I picked out this onesie from Oshkosh and I'll pair it with some pants, booties and one of the hats I've crocheted for her. I still need to pick out a jacket or sweater to go over it since it will most likely be pretty cold here.

  • So many cute options! I think we will bring our little one home in a fleece sleeper that we purchased from Carter's with a headband/bow. Who am I kidding though, the outfit may change by then and it depends what we receive at the shower. We'll probably take a couple options.
  • My son was born mid-December in NYC and he wore a short sleeve onsie and socks underneath a footed onsie, a sweater knit hat and a fleece "outerwear" hooded footed onsie. My friend in Florida who had her baby 3 days later dressed her son in a long sleeve onsie, matching knit pants, socks and a hat. It really depends on where you are but when in doubt dress baby in one extra layer than you and carry a blanket in case there's an unexpected chill. This time baby will be wearing something similar to this (it says LOVE not a skull lol), with a short sleeve onsie, a hat and baby uggs for no reason other than pictures. Once we get home it's all about footie pajamas ...
  • I was just going to post about not worrying about coats since you can't put them in their car seat with it on. Also, I second whoever said nothing with a waistband. Waistbands/pants don't work well until the cord falls off the belly button.

@kristen2b I love that option you posted!

  • It will be summer here in Australia so I'm thinking a simple onesie, cardigan & booties for our little girl.

You guys must have cool summers. In texas during summer I think a cardigan would be too much :(
We definitely don't have cool summers but it can be windy & I want to be prepared for baby's first exposure to the wind & air con in the car etc :)
  • This is what I was thinking for coming home outfit but here in California December can have random warm days so I will look for something lighter as backup.
  • DD was born in early September. She had a shirt and little bloomers and socks. I had brought a newborn size and 3 mos size outfits. She was a little over 8 lbs and the newborn was still too big. Not sure how cold it will be here in December - usually it gets colder between January and March. I'll probably take a footed pajama to put him in and a little hat. Not sure yet.
