Am I giving up to soon***loss mentioned ***

So I went for a ultrasound 2 weeks ago because I was spotting. They also checked my HCG levels and it was rising. They said it looked like I was 5 weeks but they never confirmed a due date. Today I went in for a follow up ultrasound (two weeks later) and they said I look like I am 7 weeks and 3 days BUT I'm not progressing the way I should be. The doctor said the baby is there but no heart rate. She said at 7 weeks they should be able to see one. They even had me have a transvaginal ultrasound. They have me scheduled for a D&c for this Thursday :-(. I want to know has anyone had this happen to them? Also I want to say good luck to all of you ladies during your pregnancy :-) I pray you will never have to go through this pain.

Re: Am I giving up to soon***loss mentioned ***

  • Yes, the same thing happened to me last year when I was pregnant.  My pregnancy continued to not progress at a normal rate and then they weren't able to get a heartbeat on the last U/S at ten weeks (the previous one saw a flicker of a heart beat but I couldn't hear it). Had a D&C.  I'm sorry for your loss, it is a very difficult thing, but is much more common than most women realize. Hugs to you

  • I am so sorry you are having to experience this.   I lost 2 pregnancies this same way.

For my part, I never consented to D&C but let things progress on their own.  The hardest part is the waiting.  If you are not sure about D&C then you can choose to do the same.

If you don't feel comfortable getting a D&C so soon, then don't. Give yourself time to absorb it and then reevaluate. I don't see why you couldn't wait a week or two to make your decision.

I had a D&C this past December for the same issue..no heartbeat at 10 weeks . I wanted to know if it happened to anyone at 7 weeks and it worked out. Looking for hope I guess. Thank you ladies.
  • I am so sorry to hear this. It really is the worst fear come true. Take all the time you need to make a decision. A lot of love coming your way!

I don't have a story to share, but if you have even a shred of doubt about what's going on, perhaps you can talk to your doctor about getting another ultrasound before committing to a D&C. Or, as others suggested, at least give yourself some time to process what's going on before you make a decision about next steps. *hugs* to you, I'm so sorry you're going through this.
  • Thoughts and prayers are headed your way. Is it possible to talk to your doctor about waiting it out if you are unsure?

  • I would personally wait a little bit. I have a friend who was told she was miscarrying again (she had 5), they couldn't find a heart beat, but when she went back in to be checked again, they found a heart beat. Then they thought she was losing the baby again a couple months later. Wrong again. That little girl was born so healthy and is now a happy and healthy almost 4 year old.

Granted, that isn't true in all cases but I'd still wait a week and ask to be checked again.
