Shoes?...More like foot prisons.

I don't know if anyone else is struggling with this, but I am a self-proclaimed shoe lover. This is my first pregnancy, and everyone warned me that my feet might grow/change, and I hoped they were wrong. I'm 33 weeks, and although my feet haven't gotten longer, they are definitely wider, making anything other than my sandals uncomfortable. I keep looking longingly at my collection of fall flats, booties, and riding boots, and I can't help but be a little sad! Is this normal? Who cares about my pre-baby body. I just want my shoe collection back!

  • Yep, it's normal. That's why everyone warned you about it. ;)

  • Me too! It's so sad! I own over a hundred pairs of shoes and all that fit me now are sandals and the most ratchet pair old navy flip flops. The good news is that I was told that my feet will go back to normal after baby gets here. I am also 33 weeks so not too much longer! We will be able to wear our fall boots! Hang in there.

  • I have a sweater material, pair of UGG boots and they are my best friend from September on, since I live in Ohio. SO comfy, and they stretch!
  • FTM here and I am genuinely curious... do all pregnant women's feet swell? I am 31w5d tomorrow and my feet haven't changed yet, so I am wondering if perhaps I'm one of the lucky ones or if it just hasn't hit me yet?
  • Mine "grew" a whole size up. I just hope and pray to God they shrink a little after I give birth. Too many shoes will perish if they dont. :((
  • I have tiny feet and they havnt been really bad even with the swelling in still able to wear my twinkle toes and wear all my cute light up shoes.. I don't think I'll ever give up my Velcro.. Much easier when your huge and can barely reach your feet.. I have adult shoes too that look nice I promise lol I just hate asking my husband for help to tie them..
  • @ooooner, I haven't experienced any swelling yet and I am 32 weeks. No issues with my feet or hands (yet, lol).
  • I haven't experienced any swelling yet (at 30 weeks) but I feel your pain. Any time I put on something other than tennis shoes or flip flops my feet THROB the whole time. Also, I swear my thighs have doubled in size so riding boots are just out this year completely. Not cute paired with thunder thighs.
  • @ooooner, I haven't experienced any swelling yet and I am 32 weeks. No issues with my feet or hands (yet, lol).

    Glad to hear it!!
  • I hear you. I have no idea what I'm going to do when it gets cold! My feet are the same length but for sure wider... I miss my shoes! I hadn't really noticed cause I'm in runners all day at work and have been in sandals when I'm not at work but now it just makes me sad. My fingers have been swelling for a while now. I can still wear my wedding band or my engagement ring, but not both together.
  • Flats that are made with leather or suede tend to be pretty forgiving to swelling.  You may also want to try and find one or two pair of shoes in a wide size for winter.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

Short answer, no. Not all pregnant women get swollen feet. However, they may change after you give birth instead. I didn't notice any change in my feet with either of my daughters (they were summer babies though, so it may have been that I live in flip flops all summer anyways) during pregnancy, but I definitely did after they were born, DD1 especially.

They did eventually go back to normal, but it wasn't immediately. I definitely agreed with Vexed...get 1 or 2 pairs of shoes that fit your feet now to get you through the winter.

  • My feet are so swollen it is stupid. I am 31+2 and they've been swollen for about a month. I sit at a desk all day, which makes them so much worse. On top of that, they actually hurt - like they're all bruised on top. My doctor was like, "yep" when I showed him last week. If I wear compression socks, I can shove my foot into my tennis shoe, but that's about it. My nice, cute work shoes don't work anymore, so I've been sporting flip flops for weeks, and I dare anyone to ask me about it (they're against dress code).

Other than my feet, my fingers are fat too. I had to remove my wedding ring several weeks ago too.

    We're having twins

Our angel baby boy is looking over his twin sister - due November 21

  • All I have worn for the past few months is flip flops. I wore a pair of regular flats to church one day. We went out to lunch and the grocery store afterwards and I thought I was going to die. My feet were hurting so bad and so swollen. I need to go find some slip on fall/winter shoes. I don't think my regular shoes are gonna fit this fall since I have gone up a size. :((
  • So I was really depressed yesterday after shopping for shoes for my shower this weekend and I couldn't find a single pair that fit....the more I was on my feet the more swollen they were getting. I tried on a pair 2 sizes bigger than my normal size and they didn't work.

    So So So sad.

  • My feet seem okay mostly, a little more snug. I just don't ever feel like bending over to put shoes on. Defiantly sandals kind of gal, though I did get a pair of cheap slip-ons. Haven't even worn them yet.
@kesmeredith My thighs are depressing me! I don't recognize them anymore!! I'm thinking/ hoping it's mostly water weight because it seemed out of nowhere I just looked down one day and there were these two tree stumps..
  • When I saw this thread a few days ago I was relieved to not be experiencing this. But then again I was still only wearing sandals and open toed heels since the weather has been so nice. Then yesterday I decided to put on a pair of ballet flats. Fit fine in the morning, but by 2pm I had to take them off - they were so tight!! I couldn't get them back on and had to get my gym shoes out of my car to wear at work - ridiculous!!
  • This might sound wierd, but I have found with my flats for work at least, if they feel a little small, I can put on a thick pair of socks and then the shoes, then use a hair dryer on warm for a bit, they gave me the wiggle room I need to wear them. Not sure of it works for what you have, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
  • Such a problem! Once it's officially too cold and I can't wear sandals, the only things that will fit me are a pair of black slingback flats and a pair of sweater material mid-calf boots. Hopefully that will last me until the baby comes out and my feet start getting back to normal!
  • Lucky me my feet did not change, but I need to go buy new shoes, I have holes/tears in all my flats.... My boots are fine though.
I just hate going shopping. I think I will wait until I need to go shopping for baby, or until they just fall apart.
