December 2015 Moms

Am I the only one?

I haven't started shopping yet other than diapers. I've been fatigued lately and just can't find the energy. Our plan is to start at the end of the month though. It's not many great clothing stores where I live so can any mom's who have started shopping or that has already finished give me advice on what stores or online stores has nice clothes for girls and boys?

Re: Am I the only one?

  • We love Carters which you can also find at babys r us and tjmaxx. My mother has also bought some cute stuff at baby gap. I've been able to find some really good stuff at yard sales and thrift stores as well.

  • Zulily for online shopping is great! Lots of good deals on name brand clothing!
  • I second Carter's, which I will add is also available at Buy Buy Baby. Also Children's Place and Old Navy.
  • We love carter's! I could buy out the store.. Kohls, jcpenny and target carry carter's as well.
  • And Sears!

  • Carter's is great! They carry them at kohls and if you have a kohls card you can get great deals when they have their 30% off!
  • Babies r us and carters my dh and I are literally there on his days off!
  • I have purchased every gender neutral thing available from carters. Everything they have is adorable. And the prices are not too shabby either! I can always find a discount code as well... For example, two days ago they had a "spend 50$ get 20% off" and I saved 10$!!
  • The Facebook garage sale pages I joined have multiple posts on clothes, bouncers, high chairs, even cribs, formula, diapers, and car seats. I'd hesitate to buy any second hand car seat because there's no way to verify it's accident-free but there are bargains galore!
  • You're not alone! I just started buying stuff. So far I have a crib, dresser, and diaper bag. I'm going to get serious next month, I've just been putting it off. I'm team green so it's hard to get excited about clothes.
  • I haven't gotten anything. I'm waiting until after our shower on 10/10 to see what we'll need to buy and then get some fun stuff too! I'm also thinking with our due dates we can probably take advantage of Black Friday sales! ☺️
  • I've purchased all LOs clothes at carter's on sale online directly from their website. I've waited for sales and gotten everything 40-50% off (they have sales every couple weeks). My anatomy scan was earlier than my OB was comfortable with gender prediction (quote: your scan is early so don't shop or paint based on any gender revealed during the scan) so I've kept purchases gender neutral. I've only gotten basics for 0-3 months and a handful of newborn sized onesies (no baby in my family has worn newborn so I bought one package and will buy more if needed locally). I used the layette list on thebump for my guide. I'm due the 14th of December and haven't purchased any special occasion outfits since I'm not sure what size LO will be at 2-4 weeks.
  • I have a few things, but mostly waiting till after shower too! I don't even have diapers! But I'm also waiting on baby to tell me what size clothes & diapers it'll need. In my family we tend to skip the newborn stage altogether & don't pause too long in each growth stage either. My SIL was telling me, I just remember them wearing twice their age range all the time! I'll get a few essentials beforehand, but am thinking most clothes can come later.
  • Dillards has the cutest outfits by far. The edgehill collection is adorable!
  • I'm waiting until after my shower to stock up on essentials (hopefully I get some things from that), and then after birth to get more gender specific clothing. Baby will be living in blankets and jammies for the first few weeks anyways.
  • I'm also on Team Wait....I see no point in going overboard until after my shower(s) (spaced out families and friends) but we should be in high gear by November. It'll all come together, the basics to start are what really matters, at least in my FTM opinion :)
  • absolutely carters but when there is a sale! On labor day a did a haul that was 50-70 % off and then 25% extra off the total (:

I second this - if you can get past the wait. Their items do take time to deliver but we've gotten the sweetest little things for our girl on zulily and for a wonderful price too.
  • I also love buying for the next season, getting crazy deals on summer stuff that I purchase for her to-be-size next summer. Paid anywhere from $2-7 for Carters rompers and summer dresses with Kohl's deals!

  • Same thing with me! I've ordered from Zara and baby gap so far for basics and some picture worthy outfits.

    Should I be getting diapers???
  • I haven't gotten a thing yet either. Although it'll be my third boy, I had my second baby 5 years ago so the only thing I kept was the crib. I'll probably wait another month or so.
  • So far just clearance deals on the first sleepers/ onsies and 1 package of flannel receiving blankets for swaddling is all I have picked up for my twins. I'm afraid to get much because I don't know how early they will arrive or if they will have to spend time in the NICU :(
  • Online is awesome. Also look for mommy swap groups in your area on Facebook.
  • Thank all of you ladies so much. My shower is in two weeks so I may just wait till afterwards. @Taylovesbrad The diapers I have were brought for me. Personally, I think it's up to you I'm high risk with twins and there's a chance I may go in early and just imagine how many diapers I'm going to need and go through so I think it's better for me to have a head start on them.
  • I agree with looking for carters stuff at places like tj maxx and marshalls (or if you're in Canada - winners and marshalls) - I've gotten 4 packs of carters onesies for a few dollars less than in store, and then some on sale from marshalls that were even further discounted (under $10). I've also found sheets, a crib skirt, socks, and a car seat insulator (cold Canadian winters!) from there for $40 compared to the $70 charged elsewhere. I check back often as before I knew what I was having I noticed many Aden and Anais things for CHEAP, so I'm hoping they get more of that. My shower is after the birth so I need some basics and it's fun to buy a few things :) trying to only buy a few newborn clothes in case he ends up being big, but if he's not at least I have some ready to go (no babies over 7 lbs in my family histories). If you're in Canada - superstore (Joe) often has awesome sales too (think two packs of pants for $.99).

I plan to order some furniture from all modern.com as the reviews are good and their stuff seems to be significantly cheaper than I've found here - even with the horrible exchange rate at the moment. I'll get it shipped to a place in the US within a two hour drive from me and bring it back myself to take advantage of the free shipping. I also plan to go with some IKEA furniture and do some hacks (like painting and/or o'verlays) to customize it.

Zulily is great. I get all of my sons pajamas from there and other name brand clothing as well. I plan on shopping for our little girl on there once she comes as well. Sometimes you do have to wait a little while to get what you ordered, but the savings are worth it.
