Congestion?

Is anyone else experiencing congestion? I thought I was crazy, but I'm having a horrible time breathing. Then, when I told my cousin, she immediately said this happened to her during all of her pregnancies. So strange! It's not seasonal, because I'm in NOLA, and it's still hot as Hades here haha. I'm going to try Zyrtec OTC...OB said that would be fine.

Re: Congestion?

  • Yep. Normal. Sucks, though. Especially at night.

  • Try breathe right strips at night. They saved my sanity during my first pregnancy.

  • Yep very normal. Had this with my first pregnancy. I had a stuffy nose for months.
  • I too started having bad congestion last night. My doctor gave me a list of approved meds for 12 weeks on, but I was told to avoid meds before hitting 12 weeks. At 9 right now and looking for solutions - saline nasal spray? I want to breathe! :)

  • Thanks everyone. Always nice to know you're not making up symptoms.
  • When I was pregnant with my son I had terrible congestion from about 4 months pregnant until about 6 weeks after he was born. So terrible. :( I feel your pain! I hope you get some relief soon!
  • I also had never heard of this as a symptom until I asked my friend about it (she is a midwife) and apparently it happens to a lot of people. Yay, another thing to make me feel crappy!

I use saline spray when it bothers me, although it was much worse early on and now is just occasional.

I have been taking Zyrtec since before I was pregnant for diagnosed allergies. I stopped taking it for a week before I got he ok from my doctor, but have pretty much taken it the whole pregnancy. I notice a big difference when I don't take it.

Here's a tip to save money. If you have Amazon prime, order the Simply Right brand cetirizine (sp?). It's the generic version and it's less that $20 for a year supply.

It's also sold at Sam's Club, which you can buy without a membership if you have an Rx.
  • Oh man, I thought I was crazy this makes me feel so much better!

Yeah I even had an older nurse that I work with tell me this had nothing to do with my pregnancy. So that's why I came to you guys for affirmation! Haha
  • Yes!! I've been congested since 9 weeks. It's the WORST. It was impossible to fall asleep so I tried Vicks and eucalyptus oil. Worked like a charm. :)
