Nap time issues

ive been trying to get LO to sleep in his crib for nap time. It's really hit or miss. Some days he will some days he wakes up the minute I put him in it. He seems to prefer sleeping in the ergo or the solly. He's 11 weeks old and I'm worried I am establishing bad habits! How do I get him to sleep as long as he does in his crib as he does on me? Or am I just being overly nervous about all of this?

Re: Nap time issues

  • I would try putting something of yours in the crib with him when you lay him down. Like your t-shirt or something that smells like you. We did this with my DS when he went through a phase ofbonly sleeping in someone's arms and it helped a TON! It was a pretty slow start, but work your way up to longer naps. Also, when he wakes up and starts crying don't pick him up. Comfort him in his crib for as log as you can. That is what worked for us anyway. Good luck mamma!

  • I was going to say put a shirt in the crib. Maybe the crib sheet is too cold and wakes LO? You could grab a warm towel fresh from the dryer lay it on crib sheet for a little bit before laying LO down. Good luck.
  • We are still working on this, but I usually place a heavy blanket on top of her when I lay her down. I also swaddle her for every nap.
  • I swaddle in a Halo sack and lay him on his side- he doesn't like being flat on his back. I then roll up a receiving blanket and put one behind his back and one in front of his tummy. This way he can't roll forward or backwards and it also makes him feel more secure in such a wide open space. It also kind of holds his paci in. (See the picture I added) Then I turn on the sound machine. We have an angel care breathing monitor and a video monitor, so I feel secure knowing that I will know if he gets stuck up in a blanket. I only do this for naps, he doesn't sleep in it at night. Eventually I will start slowly moving the receiving blankets away from him. We are finally up to an hour and 20 minute naps in the crib! He used to scream bloody murder when I would lay him down in it until I started that routine!
  • It took about 4 or 5 days to get our son to sleep on his back. We have him in the pack and play in our room during the night and either that or his crib during the day. Sometimes he still naps in the swing, but not often.
