4m old weight

my baby is 4m just had his check up visit with vaccines and he weighs 20 pounds. I was told he is weighing too much for his age and I should cut back feedings. Doctor suggested two containers of puréed fruits or vegetables a day with 4 either 6 or 7 ounce bottles a day. Before I was feeding him 5 bottles of 8oz a day. He seemed hungry so I would feed him. Not sure if that's the right thing to give so much baby food and cut back on formula. Or if he is receiving enough formula. Before he would drink about 40oz a day of formula and now after the doctors recommendations I give only 28oz a day with two baby food containers. I'm not even sure what is the recommended amount of formula a day for this age.

Re: 4m old weight

  • My baby is 4.5 months old. She was born weighing 6lbs 13 oz. She now weighs 13lbs 2 oz. She eats probably 4 or 5 4oz bottles a day with 2 or 3 containers of baby food. My doctor says that she's perfectly healthy and that what they want to see is that baby doubles their weight by their 4 month appointment.

I always offer the formula first since it has more of what baby needs and then if she's not satisfied I offer baby food. If your baby is still hungry then offer a little more formula afterwards. Some babies need more than others.

  • My son was born 8lbs and is now 12lbs 3oz at 4.5months. He only gets 24 oz a day.
  • I'm a pediatric dietitian and also have a 5 month old. That is quite a bit of formula- although I think 4 months is on the young side for solids- was there a sudden weight gain- we usually look for 5-7 oz a week for growth more than that could possibly be overfeeding. If you are mixing in solids 2-3 jars a day is adequate along with 32 oz of formula per day
  • My baby is 4 months tomorrow and 19 pounds. My pedi didn't say she was weighing too much or anything and I'm still feeding on demand until she starts daycare next week where they will try and get her on a schedule.
  • I'm an end of the monther from A15. My baby boy was 18 lbs at his four month appt. I have no idea how much he eats because he won't take a bottle. He was 8 lbs 9 oz at birth.
  • Mine is 15lbs and at 50%th tile
  • 4 months, DD was 11 lbs 11 oz.... 5th percentile for weight, 28th for height. Doc wants us to offer more formula, extra bottle per day.

  • My 4 month old is not even on the chart :-( She was born at 34 weeks 3 days, and was 5 lbs 10 oz. She was 9lbs 11 oz at 17 weeks old. So she has not even doubled her birth weight. She is exclusively breastfed. But has pretty severe reflux and the Zantac seems to have stopped working. So we will see what the doctor says on Friday, I think a new medication is in order.
  • We were 7'8" at birth and are now at 16'4" at 17.5 wks and pedi told us she's 90th percentile for weight. She's EBF
  • We had our 4 month appointment today. My LO was 8lb 13 oz at birth and was 18 lbs today! He's also in the 90th percentile for weight. He has always only had formula and eats six 6 oz bottles a day. I asked about food and they told me to hold off until he didn't seem satisfied by just a bottle anymore or started waking up during the night to eat (he hasn't done this in about a month). I think if your LO is still satisfied with the bottle that I wouldn't necessarily cut back that much but maybe start adding in small bits of food at a time and see if that helps. I'm all about feeding them when they're hungry! They'll even out eventually!
  • EBF baby boy over here. His birth weight was 9.4 and he was 19.5 at his 4 month appt. My ped is happy with his weight, he's been on the bigger size since birth, but his gain is consistent and that's what matters. We were told to not start solids until 6 months.
  • My baby girl was 12 lb 12 oz at 4 months. 17th percentile for weight but 8th for height and pediatrician wasn't concern
  • My LO was 6lbs 11oz at birth & is now 15lbs 1oz at 20 weeks
  • My DD was 9 lb 11 oz at birth. Her 4 month appt she weighed 15 lb 4 oz. not quite doubled yet but she's a chubby girl. I EBF and feed on demand..

  • My LO was 8lbs at birth and we just had her 4mo check up yesterday, she weighs 14lbs 9oz and she eats 6oz formula every 3 hours except overnight when she goes from 5pm-5am without a feed so she gets about 35oz a day of food. Dr said she was fine, we have not introduced anything food or cereal just formula for now. Our Dr said when she is ready and curious for food she will show signs of that. Right now she seems fine with her formula.
  • My lil angel is 4 months 1 week. At her 4 month check up she weighed 13.2 lbs.
  • Little man was 8.3lbs at birth and is now 13.8lbs at four months
  • My guy was 9.4 at birth and 16.5 at his 4 month check up.
  • DS was 7.9lbs at birth and he's now 21 weeks ad is 19lbs. Chunkerrrrr
  • My lo was 9'11 at birth and 17 lbs at his 4 mos appt. we just started doing oatmeal and squash...  ped said things looked good and most babies start baby food between 4 and 6 mos, just personal preference for parents.
  • Hi momma! Do not change your feeding to your lo. He will be fine

My baby was born 7 pounds 8.5 ounces and now at 4 months 15 pounds drinks like 3/4 ounces every 3 hours
  • My son was born 7 lbs 8 oz and he weighs 17 lbs 2 oz as of Tuesday. But his cardiologists said that was great. He has CHD and is having open heart surgery on the 30th. They said if he didn't have that he would weigh a lot more because then he wouldn't be losing a ton of calories when he eats or moves around. But he eats 4 ounces every 2/3 hours. They told me that was normal. Or at least good for him.
  • My sweet baby girl was 8lbs 1 oz at birth and at her 4 month check up yesterday she weighed 14 lbs 2.5 oz! She's growing up so fast!
  • My little guy was born 7lb 13oz. He was 15 even at his 4mo visit.
  • My little guy was 8lbs at birth. At his 4 month appt he was 16.5lbs. He eats 7oz bottle every 4 hours or so. So 28oz a day. Doc said no solids until 6 months. But I could start introducing baby cereal now.
  • my LO was 6lbs 13oz at birth and he just had his 4 month check up and he was 14lbs 14oz. and he's 26inces long. :) he is EBF . I'll probably start introducing solids in between 5.5 -6 months !

  • My son was 4 weeks early weighing 4 pounds 7.8 ounces. 17.75 inches long. He's now 13 pounds 6 ounces and 24.5 inches long.
I developed preeclampsia which is what lead to early delivery and his small size. Very happy with his weight gain!
