Brown spotting :(

I'm 6w5d today and have had some brown spotting. I wouldn't say it's a LOT but it's definitely something that I almost need to wear a panty liner for. No more cramping then I've been having. Nothing out of the ordinary in the past couple of days except a little bit more physically active. I talked to my NP and she said to monitor and didn't seem that concerned but I am freaking OUT. Everything I've read has been bad... Anyone else experience this and end up with POSITIVE results? :(

Re: Brown spotting :(

  • I've had this off & on the past few weeks. I'm 6 weeks & 5 days. I have my ultrasound on Monday. I'll let you know. I wouldn't worry too much? I'm trying not to. Best of luck!

  • Not that my experience has any bearing on yours, but I have had this with my last pregnancy and this one (both times a week or so of brown/light pink spotting). My son is now 18months so that one turned out fine, I'm still only 5 weeks with this one so we shall see. My understanding is that brown spotting in the first trimester is very common and isn't in itself something to worry about. I believe there have been a few threads on this so if you use the search function you may find some more information. Fx for you!

  • I'm sorry you're having to deal with this. I can give you a positive result, and I hope it turns out the same for you. I've been spotting for almost 2 weeks now. At first it started out very very light and has gradually increased to the point where I sometimes wear a liner. I've also had mild cramping on and off. Today I had an ultrasound because of the spotting, and baby has a heartbeat and is doing just fine.

Sending positive thoughts your way. I know how nerve wracking it can be. There are a number of reasons for spotting, and it definitely doesn't always lead to MC. If you scroll back a couple of pages, too, you'll see a number of posts similar to yours with plenty of reassuring words from people who have experienced this and had positive outcomes. I think a common mantra around here is that brown blood =old blood, which is not as concerning as red.

Fx for you, hang in there.
  • I had bleeding during my first pregnancy which ended in MC (not because I was bleeding).  HOWEVER, when I was freaking out about the bleeding, one thing that I found reassuring was the doctor told me that brown meant that it was OLD blood.  Meaning it could even be from implantation and it is just now getting down there to come out.   Could be as simple as that.  I hope that it is something that simple.   Hang in there!

  • I just had some spotting too. I blame it on the trans vaginal US I had. My Dr said unless it is red or a lot, no worries!
  • When you have this, this is old blood, your body is shedding it, due to it being left over in a sense. I had this with one pregnancy. This may be why no one is to concerned. They will always check and if baby is ok then there's nothing to worry about. Just relax. One day at a time
  • I had bleeding (more than spotting) with DS in the first trimester and went on to have a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby. I've had a bit if spotting with this one. Try to relax and stay hydrated. Also, this thread may help you feel better: https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12621124/an-insight-to-early-pregnancy-bleeding
  • I'm 4w5d & started lightly bleeding & cramping this morning. Since it's the weekend, doctors' office is closed. Trying to rest & not freak out.
  • I spotted brown in the beginning with my last pregnancy (now my 14 month old daughter). Trust your care provider girl, they've seen loads of pregnancies and complications. And even if something was happening, worrying about it isn't gonna help your little one thrive.
