Trying to switch from breast to bottle to start daycare

My baby won't take a bottle, I have tried several bottles, different techniques and nothing seems to work. My husband is the one that keeps trying and it's just very unsuccessful. It pains me to see her upset and also to dump my breast milk. She's starting Daycare in a few weeks when I go back to work. Does anyone know what I should do? Any advice is highly appreciated.

  • Couple tips my LC had: some babies like taking the bottle with eye contact, others faded away. Try wrapping your shirt around the bottle so baby gets your scent. try swaddling, be physically gone when dad tries. Keep trying every day!

  • I'm also going back to work in a few weeks and have been introducing a bottle periodically for motn feelings by daddy. I'm using Dr Browns bottles and suggest pace bottle feeding. Here's an article on it that I found helpful: https://kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/feeding-tools/bottle-feeding/

Had the exact same problem and I was super worried because I went back to school this past Tuesday. I bought everything from the Avent, tommy tippy bottles and nothing. I bought the Comotomo bottle because a mom here on The Bump recommended it (thanks @mrsrep123 ..! :) ) . At first he didn't take it, Tuesday I left to class and left him napping, I was very worried if anything I would run home to feed him but to my surprise he took the bottle. Grandma and grandpa were very happy. I'm in class right now and I even got a text saying he ate 4 oz! The nipples on this bottle are so similar to the breast comparing to all the other bottles I've tried. They're soft and made of hospital grade silicone! They only sell this bottle online ( I bought mine on Amazon and just ordered 2 more). I hope this helps and don't give up. Babies are very smart and she will take it eventually, we just have to be patient with them but take it as a compliment that our little ones prefer our breast more lol Good luck mama! :)
  • My son would only take super warm milk. Play around with different temperatures.

  • I agree with the different temps, and try different people also, I was able to right away with my daughter and she still nurses. I work in an infant room and a little boy here had only taken 2 bottles in his life before he started and refuses to drink at daycare, so mom has to leave work and come nurse, so i'd really try it all!
  • DD was like that we found that running the nipple under really warm water right before giving it to her made all the difference.
