Tricks to ease symptoms?

So besides the mood swings and trips to the bathroom every ten minutes, I've had this miserable suffocating heartburn no matter what I eat (especially with greasy foods) so I've cut back on those but most everything gives me heartburn. I took some tums but those don't seem to work. Do any of you ladies have any secret tricks to relieve heartburn or any other symptoms that come along with early pregnancy? Share your knowledge! :)

I suffer semi-regularly from acid reflux.  Sometimes heart burn and acid reflux go hand in hand.  You could try to prop up on some pillows and sleep on your left side.  If you sleep on  your back or your right side it will make it worse.

Edit:  I wish we could take Pepto Bismol, that usually puts out the fire for me.  I wish it were on the approved list.

  • I suffer from severe heart burn under normal circumstances and therefore I take rantidine (aka zantac). My doctor said that's actually a medication you can continue taking during pregnancy. So I take one every day whether I have heart burn or not and it's a lifesaver. I still get occasional heart burn depending on what I eat (had to give up hot sauce) but nothing compared to what it would be without it.
  • It's okay to take Zantac!? I bought some before I found out I was pregnant because the heartburn was so bad, then my mother told me it was a no-no for pregnant women. Thank goodness! I'll probably go take some right now. :D
  • Zantac was a lifesaver during my last pregnancy!
  • I agree with the Zantac! I take it every day, knocked up or not. My OB informed me when I was pregnant with DD that I could take it twice a day (it's the 150 mg kind) and that was such a game changer. I was only taking it once a day. I'm not sure if it's all that way though - I'm sure most of y'all read boxes more closely than I do! ;)

  • Zantac! I'm finding that it actually is helping with the nausea this pregnancy too. I didn't think I really had reflux enough to take a med but I tried it and it may be my new BFF.

  • So glad to find this thread! I've had barely any nausea, but the heartburn has been consistent since day 1 (almost literally day 1. It was my first suspicion that I was pg). I never suffered from heartburn before, but now everything effects me. I even got it from a nutella sandwich :(
I'm 6w 5d and have my first appointment on Tuesday. I'll make sure to ask them for Zantac :)
  • My doc said it's fine to take up to 150 mg, twice a day :)
