Tips for low back ache

Hi! I'm 4w3d with baby number 3(yay!) and having low back aches. Nothing too painful but it's constant and obnoxious. I'm on shift for 12.5 hours a day on my feet, bending, lifting, etc. I've used hot blankets on it with some success and ice packs with some success. Normally this would be a job for ibuprofen but we all know that's a no no. How do you mommas to be handle it? Resting much isn't really an option in my line of work. Sitting for 15 minutes is a real treat. ;)

Re: Tips for low back ache

  • I used to have a constant dull ache in my lower back. I started going to the chiropractor and haven't had it since. I go once a month now.

  • I am having #3 too!! I have found the aches have started already too. :P Tylenol would be my only idea.
  • I was having some trouble, but it was because of how I was sleeping, so I bought a snoogle. It's been great!

  • Do stretches once a day. If you have a knot, lay on a tennis ball and massage your lower back with it. My physical therapist friend recommends that.

  • I do a lot of yoga, helps get rid of all my aches and pains!

For low back, I like Gary Kraftsow's low back pain yoga DVD. You can find it on amazon (I'd post a link but I'm on my phone and it's a pain!)
  • You can take tylenol

  • Sleep with a pillow between your knees (if you sleep on the side), or a pillow under your legs/calves/knees if sleeping on your back. I used to have bad lower back pain (before pregnancy) and my pelvic physio recommended that...it was life changing :)
  • Make sure your using proper technique when lifting things, think about your posture when standing and lumbar pillow for support when you do sit? Pillows like pp mentioned are great as well.
