Broke down and bought a Rock n Play

If your LO sleeps in one of these, do you keep him/her in your room with you or in his/her room?

My DS is so uncomfortable still, this morning we put him in his regular bouncer chair and he slept soundly after grunting/coughing/yelling in his sleep for the previous hour.

I stopped giving him the lactose drops yesterday, which I guess was  a bad idea but the pedi and I discussed and thought he didn't seem much better with all the effort from pumping and treating my milk. I guess I was wrong because last night was pretty awful with his gas/being very uncomfortable.

  • We love the rock and play. We have a cosleeper next to our bed for night time but for naps during the day and prior to getting the cosleeper she sleeps in the RNP. She's not a fan of her swing yet so whenever we have to put her down we just pop her in the RNP on vibrate and she's usually very comfortable and happyyyyy!

We try to put DD in her bassinet in our room, but if she won't sleep in it, RnP it is! I keep it right next to me in our room, but I am also unfortunately still a compulsive breathing checker.

Exactly this for us too. You gotta do what you gotta do- good luck!

  • DD2 goes down in the rock n play for the first stretch in her bedroom with the monitor on her. Then when we go to bed (usually about 3 hours later) we bring her and the rock n play to our room. She sleeps flat in the bassinet till her first wake up (usually her longest stretch 4-5 hours) and then back to the rock n play the rest of the night cause she goes to sleep easier in it when she's not quite as sleepy. I don't want her in it all night long cause she doesn't have reflux so she doesn't "need" to be at an angle, and I'm hoping it will make the transition easier in a few months when she outgrows the RnP. The transition was pretty tough with my older daughter who had reflux and was in it all night long (we did the same start in her room and move to ours thing with her too).
  • LO sleeps in hers next to our bed every night. The bassinet was too high for me to see in when we brought her home, and it freaked me out. (Anxious FTM) I'm trying to get her used to sleeping on a flat surface now (she's 3 weeks) because I'm worried she won't sleep as well. I love our RnP and have told the moms-to-be that I know that it has been invaluable!
  • My DD is 9 weeks old and slept in the rock n play from 4 weeks until last night (basically only slept in my arms prior to that). I kept it right next to me bed. I'm also a compulsive breathing checker. My husband wanted to move her to her own room in the rock n play...absolutely not! She sleeps great in there, up to 10.5 hours straight at night. But my pediatrician really wants her to start sleeping in a crib or pack n play so we just tried that for the first time last night. It actually went surprisingly well (but not 10.5 hours straight well).
  • She is right by my side of the bed. Love the RnP. We moved it with DD1 into her room with a video monitor on her at 10 weeks and into her crib permanently a few days later.

Watch for signs of flat head. The RnP caused it in DD1, so letting this LO only sleep our longest stretch in it for now.
  • I just bought the expensive one that rocks itself. Worth every penny! She will sleep like 5-6 hrs in it, which is a major improvement for us. She has reflux so sleeping flat has been difficult for her. She would wake up every ten minutes and clear her throat or she would sputter. So I don't even care if it takes us a week to transition her to the crib when she is eating solids. She sleeps in it next to our bed so I can easily put her pacifier in her mouth if needed.
  • I hope it helps him...and that he can use it for at least a little bit, he's 5.5 weeks. It is supposed to arrive tomorrow.

  • My first did PnP in our room and crib. Bought a RnP for the second and she sleeps incredibly well! Have her next to the bed. She doesn't like being on her back unless she is fast asleep already. She swallows a lot of air and breathes in milk a lot so the RnP is helpful with her digestion allowing me to feed her, burp briefly, then plop her back in the RnP without getting out of bed. Since we came home from the hospital I haven't needed a mid-day nap more than once, it's been amazing!
