Why would dr do that?

Had my weekly appt today (37.5 weeks),2 cm, 25% effaced, baby is still high and my dr scheduled an induction for two days before my due date? I thought they induce once your passed your due date or a week or so early

Are you high risk or advanced maternal age? How big is baby? There are lots of reasons why some will want to induce early, but you should definitely ASK!!

I mean if I were high risk what's 2 days early going to due? I'm not high risk though....no pre-e, no GD, baby was 7 lbs 2 weeks ago but again...what's 2 days early going to do?

I'm a plus sized momma. And statistically I'm at a greater risk of horrible complications if I go past my due date. .. I have to be monitored more closely leading up to them also. But because of this my Dr will not allow me to go even a day past my due date this time. I have no other complications with me or baby. I'm just a chubby girl. .. Are you plus sized? Or maybe your Dr is one who likes to use medicine to get the show on the road to control the timing. ..

I can see what you mean by being taken off guard. I would find it very strange that the dr didn't really explain why, even if you didn't ask. Personally, if there is no reason for it, I would NOT even consider induction until 41 weeks especially if you start having non-stress tests and baby is just fine. Let us know the reason when you can

None of us are going to be able to answer this for you since you aren't high risk or anything like that. Just get in touch with your doctor and see what's going on.

Maybe your doctor is going on vacation and wants to get your delivery out of the way. Definitely ask him and unless there is some medical or logical reason then I would wait until baby is ready! Good luck!

Honestly, the doctor could be just trying to schedule it on a day that she is the on call dr because she wants to be the one delivering you. Just a guess... (I'm an RN and that's the way some dr.'s think

I honestly doubt anyone has had the same experience. Generally I think doctors make decisions based on each patient's health situation, the baby's progression, what they feel based on their knowledge and experience will be the best for you and baby. But again it all gets down to you asking your doctor why. I'm sure they have a good explanation for it. Just keep us posted

I can see not asking. I can see the doctor just saying "okay let's induce you on such and such" and you just being like "okay" and in shock. I've done the same thing.

Definitely because it's convenient for the doctor. My cousin got induced a few days before her due date because "the doctor does inductions on Tuesdays." Unfortunately, it is a business and some (not all or even most) doctors would rather things be convenient for themselves and since u are not high risk, he doesn't see any harm in it. Even though we all know that the more interventions you get, the more the chances of c section increase. Good luck!

I actually just left my OB practice because of something similar. Im 33 weeks, and she kept saying that closer to my edd theyll probably induce me, no medical reason really just because it's easier on them. I told them i wanted a natural birth and they basically laughed at me. So i left.

There is a doctor in my community that all of his patients are induced at 39 weeks, no matter what, unless a patient insists on going naturally. He just does it unless you say something. Patients really love him, but that's not my style. He induces for convenience because he is the only doctor in his practice. It's possible your doctor just scheduled it because it is the normal practice, but you could have a say. Just ask and then you'll know your options.

You don't have to be induced. It's your rightt to refuse. Do you know if this is common practice at your doctors office. Are you due on the weekend? Call and get your information and go from there.

There are a couple doctors who work locally that induce everybody early. Most women don't realize they don't have to do it or assume there was a reason.

If there's no medical reason, I would decline the induction.
