Been ttc for 9 months now. Just wondering if anyone else has Colitis / Crohn's or IBS and is ttc. Did you double your vitamin intake? Did you find it hard to conceive?
I do not have ibs or chron's but wanted to send hugs... My husband has chron's and has been very sick for the past few years. He just had a partial colostomy in July. Have you talked to your doctor about doubling your vitamins? I'm sure you would not be the first to ask for their advice.
Thanks. Yes not an easy disease to live with at times. Sorry to hear your husband is dealing with Crohn's. I have talked to my doctor. Was told just to make sure I don't get any flare ups during a pregnancy.

It can take the average couple up to a year to conceive. I have a friend with IBS that is newly pregnant. It didn't take her very long (maybe 4 months) to conceive, but her fertility will have no bearing on yours.
I have Ulcerative Colitis but we are only on cycle 1. I was told that with UC in remission controlled by diet and lifestyle I should have the same chances TTC as anyone else my age. I'm also not currently on any medications though. I would definitely consult your doctors and see if when your UC is in remission you can attempt to maintain sans meds for better odds with doctors blessing and supervision of course.
Also I take a prenatal along with extra B12, D, fish oil, probiotics, and do castor oil packs regularly. I try to include at least 2 fermented foods containing pro/prebiotics per day. ***TMI poop warning*** Although I have loose BMs almost daily, I still maintain and gain weight easily and no longer have blood or mucus.
Hope that's helpful. Also 9 months is still within normal timeframe TTC. Good luck!!
Hi! Fellow Crohn's girl here! I'm TTC month 2. I'm also on Remicade. My best advice would be to book a preconception consult with a high risk OBGYN. My gastroenterologist didn't give me the green light to TTC before I saw that doctor. It made me feel way more in "control" of the situation and ready to face the challenge that comes with a pregnancy with a chronic disease. Regarding vitamin, I don't think doubling them would change a thing if you are not absorbing them.
I have IBS and severe GERD. My OBGYN was ok with me staying on my meds and told me that once I get pregnant I probably won't need the meds I take for IBS. He said that the GERD meds will still be needed and taken. Besides for my vitamins and the nutrients in my protein shake I haven't added anything extra.
I have UC and have also been controlling it with diet. I have absolutely no advice. We've been TTC for 5 months, so there's no way of telling if that has an effect on your ability to conceive. I DO wonder sometimes though, if having UC affects the way your body absorbs medications if you have to take them for fertility. I did start taking fish oil which seems to have helped a lot.

@thycapa if you don't mind me asking what meds do you take for GERD? I've been back and forth between my gastro and OBGYN about staying on meds or not when pregnant.
Thanks everyone for your input. It's nice to have others to talk about this with. I've had colitis for 10 years and have had 3 major flare up , being hospitalized for weeks on end. So now that we are finally ttc it makes me worry on how my body will react. I've been on remicade and now haventry had a treatment for a year. Bern trying to keep my stress down. Stress is a big reason I flare up. I've been starting to eat goats youget regularly . I work in health care and they swear by it as a healer.
Hi there! I've had UC for 8 years now and have a 6 year old and a 2 year old. With my first pregnancy I got pregnant right away (first month of trying) and with my second it took us 3 years. I would recommend being in total remission when getting pregnant. I take Lialda along with Fish Oil, Calcium, a Pre-natal and a probiotic. I believe stress plays a big part in UC and trying to get pregnant. After trying for 3 years to get pregnant with our second child we decided to stop focusing on it and booked a Disney vacation. A month after that we got pregnant! We'd like to have another child but haven't been stressing over it as much as with the 2nd. I figure if it is meant to be it will happen! Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to contact me!!
Crohns lady here! I touched base with my GI dr and even had a scope done and my dr said had he not diagnosed me himself he never would have known I had it - that's when he gave me the green light to TTC. It took us 7/8 cycles, I had a wonderful pregnancy, however flared at 39 weeks. My GI and OB said it is common for the hormonal change that your body goes through when it's gearing up for labor to cause a flare. However, I also have endometriosis and that was likely a contributing factor; having the two together. I've been on Apriso since my diagnosis which is safe to take while pregnant. We are NTNP at this point, but got the green light from my dr to TTC again.
