My doctor didn't say anything about it. When I heard that it was a concern based on the cleanliness of the machines, I decided if we went somewhere like that, we'd make sure we stuck to large chains that we'd been to before and had no problems with. You can always ask the manager there how often they clean the machines if you're concerned
This was one of the few specific things my doctor said no about and yet said it was okay to have multiple iced coffees. I am just confused since it would seem so unlikely to actually get listeria from the machines unless the whole establishment looked unkept. Just wanted to see if maybe this was just a quirk of my OB or if it's something that most OBs feel you should just avoid. Thanks ladies
Several of the most recent listeria outbreaks have been dairy/ice cream related. With that said, my MW never said anything about it and I'm not concerned.
I talked to someone at a chain here in my area about how they clean the machines and she said that they're shut down and cleaned every night. You can always tell by taste when they aren't emptying the machines and cleaning because it will taste a bit like spoiled milk.
