Upper Lip-Tie

Hello Mommas - I never post on here, but I need some input and advice. I'm pretty sure, like 99.99% positive, my LO has an upper lip-tie. I've done a little research and can't find anything that definitively says leave it or cut is. My questions are: has anyone else gone through this, what options did you go with, and do you think it was worth it? TIA

Re: Upper Lip-Tie

  • I don't think a lip tie is as important to take care of as a tongue tie. Tongue ties are more worrisome because of potential speech problems later on. The only reason I had LO's taken care of is because he couldn't nurse properly. The pediatric dentist I went to had free consultations so you could look into it and get their opinion.

  • Thank you! I'll look into a pediatric dentist. I hadn't even thought of that
  • My LO fed better after having the lip tie clipped.  She was better able to flange her lips into the correct position, and didn't pop off the breast so often.
  • My little one has an upper lip tie, the conversations that I had with a LC and pediatrician both said that as long as he was gaining weight it was nothing to worry about. He was born 4lbs 12oz, so gaining weight was a huge concern and even so they were more concerned about the long term effects on him.
  • Thank you ladies. We have our 4 month check up in a week so I'm glad to have some insight before talking to our pedi
  • We had both tongue tie and lip tie released because of nursing as well. It was so painful for me to breastfeed because of them and after he had both released DS was way more efficient with getting my milk out. No regrets here! As pp said check with pediatric dentist for free consultation. Good luck!
