When to find OB

Hi, I have a gyn I like, but he doesn't deliver babies. My husband and I are trying to get pregnant, and I am wondering how far in advance folks looked for an OB, how long that took, and if anyone has any tips, recommendations, or advice.

We are in downtown Manhattan, but I'm not that worried about hospital/practice location.

My gyn saw me at 6 weeks to confirm pregnancy and then referred me to an OB. I started seeing the OB at 8 weeks.
