Slow rising hcg

Hey everyone.

I am hoping you guys can share your experiences or input.
This is my 5th pregnancy. I have one LC who is 5. Then I have had 2 miscarriages this year and one chemical.

I went into emerg 2 weeks ago and was told I had 2 cysts on my left ovary that burst. At that time they also told me that I was pregnant (3 weeks only) and there were two structures in my uterus (twins)

Because of my passed miscarriages, my gp gave a a requisition so I can go every day if I want to check my hcg levels. And until I see my ob today they wanted me to get my levels checked for the past three days.

My Levels came back and they aren't promising according to my gp.

They are still rising. ..just slower than normal.

Has anyone experienced this?

Re: Slow rising hcg

  • First of all hugs and sorry you are in this position.

Daily tests are unusual, I'm surprised your gp did daily ones, what drs usually look for are numbers that double in 48-72 hours. Its totally normal for your numbers to only go up 60% in 48 hrs. Secondly once they get over a certain figure, they slow.

If you use your first and last number, at a glance they seem to be going up well. However I dont know much about twins and HCG.

Finally most fertility Drs dont rely on numbers because they are so variable.

  • Your hcg should double every 48-72 hours. It hasn't been 72 hours since your first draw so it's hard to know but your numbers seemed to rise >50% after 48 hours so it may be ok. Fingers crossed!
  • The doctor is my best friend's dad so as a close family friend they are a bit more concerned. Thank you! Hopefully when my ob gets back from this delivery he had to run out for I get some answers! :)

Adding you must have been further than 3 weeks along when your went to the ED, nothing shows on ultrasound at 3 weels. for anything to show on ultrasound you have to be at least 5 weeks along.

Can you see an OB or someone who specialises in pregnancy? It sounds like you are getting a lot of conflicting information.
