Gabriella Rose decided she was ready at 33w+6 (DD was 10/30) Wanted to beat her mommy who was born at 34 weeks so thankfully was prepped and ready! IUGR baby so came out 4lb9oz. She is in the NICU but breathing on own and starting to latch. So far so good. Will try to feed in am with syringe and see how she does. Then will be able to tell better length of stay.
Anyway- wanted to share as I thought maybe I could help scared or clueless FTM's like me. Woke up to pee this am at 330. Got back in bed and gushed fluid. It was clear with a pink tinge in toilet when wiped and knew it wasn't pee. No contractions. Called hospital and they said come in. Confirmed water broke and since I was one day shy of 34 weeks didn't do anything to stop process just gave me steroid for baby. I was 1cm when admitted, went to 2.5 cm and started getting contractions. Bc we weren't sure if it was the real deal yet and baby was still high, nurse made it seem like I had awhile for epidural and maybe didn't want to get it too soon cuz I could be bedridden for 20+hours. Pain was getting worse but it felt like bad period cramps. I had never had contractions so it just was not what I thought. My whole stomach wasn't rolling or tightening but more just my pelvic area where you get period cramps. That's truly what it felt like and they got worse fast and lasted longer. So then I asked for the epidural and it got really bad waiting for it to kick in and then wasn't working on the left side. So started contracting around 8-9am and now it was 11 and was finally getting comfy. They checked me again and I was 10 cm! So started pushing at 11:45 when doctor got there. 4 hours later she was here. Bottom line is- don't wait to get epidural if that's your plan anyway. It does not run out ever!!! Yes four hours of pushing was exhausting and frustrating bc baby was face up, but I would take that any day over the 1-2 hours of bad contractions. And it may speed you up like me!! Could have just been more comfortable from the get go. That was the worst part otherwise I would say labor wasn't that bad!
Re: Had baby today- FTM advice!
With that said, labor and delivery differ very much for every woman and every delivery. This was your experience and no woman (or even you) will have an experience exactly like this. You said an epidural "will not run out ever" this may have been for you but I have had an epidural "run out". I've always been advised to wait until you just can not take it anymore to get an epidural and find that to work best for me. Although, like I said, every woman is different.
