or indigestion? Or reflux? Not sure what this is but I'm experiencing some wicked heartburn-ish pain frequently. I'm not even 12 weeks! Anyone else experiencing this? My midwife said I can take Tums but I haven't tried that yet.
I had wicked heartburn with #1 and already started feeling it again this time. I guess I was lucky though because Tums always worked for me. Try it, they taste good!
Had horrible heartburn with my first and already some with this one. I am not a fan of overdoing the tums but found out that carbonated water helps even better. Try carbonated mineral water. It also helps with nausea because it tastes a little sour.
I've always gotten heartburn for the last 2-3 months of pregnancy. The only real relief I've ever had was sleeping on my left side and if possible very slightly inclining my bed (stick a book or two under both sides of the headboard). Hope you get some relief because I hate heartburn!

Can someone explain the left side thing to me... what's wron with the right side? And babies can be anchored in different ways
On some dr show one day I heard that tip. They say it's because of the way your stomach is shaped. If you lay on the right side that stomach acid or whatever can more easily escape to travel back up and cause the heartburn. But if you lay on the left it has a much harder time doing that. Not scientific at all in my explanation but I tried lol.

I had really bad heartburn the whole time with my first and I do again with this one. The first time around if I would even drink water too fast I would get terrible heartburn. I had to take Prilosec the whole time with DD but this time Tums is helping so far. I'm not sure that's going to last though...
Ask your doctor at your next appointment or let them know Tums isn't helping. Prilosec can be really helpful for some people. It didn't make a huge difference for me but my friend is on it now while pregnant and it's a life saver for her.
RE: left side lying- I don't know how it pertains to stomach acid but with pregnancy in general, it's because your vena cava is on your R side. When your baby gets bigger, it can compress your vena cava if you're lying flat on your back. That's why lying on your left side is preferred but lying on your R will work as well. Hopefully I didn't just go wayyy on a tangent...
Also, the opening to the stomach is on the left side of your body, and with pregnancy and the hormone relaxin that means the sphincter to your stomach becomes relaxed and somewhat open, allowing stomach acid to spill out a little. I suppose sleeping on the left would bring stomach acid closer to the opening and sleeping on the right would put it farther from the opening.

The explanation I received was opposite of what you're saying. Also, because I've dealt with heartburn in all of my pregnancies, I do find I get relief when lying on my left side. If I happen to roll to my right while sleeping the heartburn will wake me up.

I'm very anti-drug while pregnant, so I'd personally suggest staying away from the pills, unless used very infrequently. Lots of babies come out with reflux and I feel like it is a result of the mom's taking all those pills while pregnant, but I have no scientific proof.
Anyways, tums worked for me last time. The mint ones were gross, but the berry ones were good. I'd just chew on half and be set. I also recommend the earth mama heartburn tea. I had to wait until it wasn't very warm, but it really helped!
I always get it towards the 3rd trimester. My last pregnancy I took Zantac like crazy and that was short lasting. I can't imagine dealing with heartburn this early on. I feel bad for any one that has it early. Definitely talk to your doctor if Tums isn't enough, it's likely to get worse from here on out. *I know it's an old wives tale but all of my pregnancies I had heartburn and my kids were all born with a head full of hair. Out of curiosity for the mom's who've had previous pregnancies with heartburn, were your babies born with hair?

I've always had terrible heartburn while pregnant (usually the last tri) and all of my kids were the hairiest children I've ever seen. Lol Edited for clarity

Bit of a relief I guess. I would only get heart burn with little man if I ate before bed. This time though, day and night it seems I have varying amounts of heartburn.
I've had extreme heartburn for about 20 years. Daily medication. It's 100 times worse now. I cough up acid most mornings. Tums never helped me in the past but it's actually helping me now that I'm pregnant
Re: Let's talk heartburn
Yesterday had indigestion, went to yoga and did jot like downward dog, did a nasty little swallow then had to run for the loo
Tums is like candy right?
