Mad at my sons pediatrician / stuffy nose questions

my son has an EXTREMELY stuffy nose , I have tried the saliene drops, I have a humidifier and I have the nose freida. I have gone through 2 bottles of the little remedies saliene from the time my son was 2wks to now 7wks & nothing is getting better! Today I took him to the doctor in fear that maybe he had a cold(he has no fever and isn't acting crabby) she didn't even check his nose and told me he's fine. How could you tell me he's fine when YOU DIDNT EVEN CHECK HIS NOSE :-w anyone have any advice for me ? Any other moms experiencing any stuffy nose problems & have gotten other answers as to why it's happening ? I have no idea what to do because I feel like something is wrong and my little guy sounds so bad and I feel horrible !

Re: Mad at my sons pediatrician / stuffy nose questions

  • mine's had a stuffy sounding nose the last few days and I just put on some vicks on his nose. I have the regular vicks because the store didn't have baby vicks. I mixed it with some vaseline (like my grandma showed me:)) and it has cleared up.

  • My LO caught the summer cold about 3 weeks ago and he had a stuffy nose the ped basically told me to use a humidifier and suction his nose. It will clear on its own. You can also run the hot water in your bathroom once it's steamed take your LO in there for a couple of minutes might loosen up the mucus....
  • Breast milk. That's the answer I got from pedrician.
  • My daughter always had a stuffy nose, we do what you do too and it doesn't work. On top of the saline drops and humidifier, we put her in the bathroom when we shower in her bouncer so she can get the steam, we also suck her boogers out after the saline drops.
  • I read the vapor rubs can irritate their air passages and make it worse in infants. They say menthol is not good for children so young. I love Vicks but don't use it on the baby. I got a baby vapor rub from target that is menthol free. My LO has a really stuffy nose and idk what to do for her other than just nurse and suck out the boogies with the sucker. It stinks seeing her uncomfortable and watching her nurse with a stuffy nose is the worst.
  • @Thera888 do you mean putting breast milk up their nose? How do you do it?
  • I've been having the same issues with my daughter since she was born. I pull out huge snot boogers with the nose frida and it still sounds like she's super congested with boogers. I've used saline drops and put her in the bathroom with the shower running and nothing seems to work. The pediatrician said its normal for babies to be sniffly but my daughter can barely breath out of her nose and it's hard for her to eat like this. It's so frustrating and she will wake up in the night gasping for air because she can't breath thru her nose! We have humidifiers and have tried everything we know of to try and help her but nothing works :( I'm scared she will stop breathing in her sleep. I haven't been able to sleep hardly at all!
  • Nasal congestion is super common in infants. If it's been going on this long, it doesn't sound like a cold. Is he having trouble eating because of his nose? If not, all you can really do is supportive stuff that you've been doing. Careful to not suck too much because this can cause more swelling and make your problem worse. If it's really severe, I've seen ENT docs recommend a mild nasal steroid spray so you can ask your doc about this.

It's actually the camphor in Vicks that should be avoided in babies. Baby Vicks is camphor-free.

Yes, that's what I mean. Actually pediatrician suggested to use milk for everything. When he is eating and suddenly popping off milk is spraying everywhere, some of it gets also in his nose. It helped for us :)
  • I got the same answer from my pediatrician. I thought the same thing. She's usually really stuffy at night. :(
  • My LO is kinda stuffy in the early morning. For some reason I think the side lying position makes him stuffy sometimes too
  • Breastmilk helps with anything and everything. I pump a bit and put it up her nose with a dropper. It's also moisturising
  • My daughter sounds like she has a stuffy nose but it's not. Nothing besides the occasional booger comes out. My pediatrician said it sounds like that because they have small nostrils and the air coming through makes the noise. So if nothing is coming out and your LO can breath through their nose I wouldn't worry.
