Choking

Almost every other day about once a day, when I feed LO with the bottle she ends up choking. When she first started doing it, it was just a little like cough and she would breathe just fine right after. Now it's gotten so bad to the point where last night her face turned purple and she ended up projectile vomiting almost half the bottle. And then of course I end up getting upset because it's terrifying. My mom said I did the same thing when I was baby and always had to have the booger sucker near by when she fed me. Anybody have any advice?? I plan on bringing it up with the pedi next visit

This is the story of my life. make sure you get Dr browns bottles. They literally saved my sanity. Get a premature nipple. Then as your LO gets used to it, switch to #1 nipple that bottles come with . Look up paced feeding on kellysmom.com . It should take baby 20 to 30 mins or so to finish bottle. But first, definitely definitely contact the pediatrician and tell him/her what's going on. Our baby wound up being diagnosed with reflux. Your pediatrician can determine what course of action will be best for your baby.
  • We were having this issue and switched to playtex vent aire bottles with the slow flow nipple. Worked like a charm
  • We are having a similar issue. But instead of spitting up she gurgles and then swallows. We just switched to dr Browns bottles and that seems to be helping. We are also going to so the doctor later today
  • While she's feeding or afterwards? Dr Browns slow flow helps a lot but pausing during feeds helps even more. Also, is she sitting upright while you feed her??
  • I would definitely have it checked out. We had similar issues and ended up having a swallow study done. She aspirates and has reflux. We add thickener to formula now (can't be added to BM) and it has totally solved all of our feeding issues!
  • She does it when feeding. The bottles we use are the newborn nipples and should have slower flow but I will definitely have to try out the Dr Brown ones. I also have been thinking maybe reflux. Her dad had it when he was a baby too.
  • You need to get that checked out by your LO's pedi. I had the same thing happen to Tanner and it turned out to be acid reflux.
