Seatbelt placement?

Where does our seatbelt go right now I've heard different things?

Legally you're suppose to wear it like normal. Honestly though when I get too big to be comfortable i just pull it as loose as I can. I've heard of women putting the lap belt behind them and just using the shoulder strap.

  • I just put it below my bump. Not sure if that's correct, but it's the most comfortable for me later on.

  • I believe you're suppose to put it bellow your belly if that's what you're asking.

  • Below the baby, and as flat on your legs as you can get it.
  • I was just thinking about this the other day! FTM so I haven't worried about it before. No bump yet, just uncomfortable bloaty, bigger stomach. Thanks for the answers ladies!

    that is *SO* dangerous!
i used to work in orthopaedic surgery (lots of car accident trauma!) and people terribly underestimate the importance of proper seatbelt usage. even having it too loose; it should be secure against your body every time, lap and shoulder belt, and most shoulder belts have adustable height things where they up where they feed from so that you can get the correct angle. just like carseats have different slots to feed thru and they need to be adjusted snugly etc; its as crucial for the adults as it is for our kids
technically, the lap belt is supposed to lay flat across your lap, but mine always seems to be right over my hips. when i'm pregnant i just make sure that is is under my belly. all that amniotic fluid is a great cushion for the baby in the event that the seatbelt needs to do its job :)

I agree that wearing it half on is not the way to go. It can definitely be uncomfortable but I'd rather be safe (and uncomfortable) than sorry any day. :)

  • I agree with @oceanchild - I was in a car accident at 26 weeks with my DD and had I not been wearing my seat belt correctly I would have been ejected from the truck. Buckle up those bellies!!!! Great question to ask!

  • Lap belt under your belly.  Shoulder strap between your boobs.

Our family of 5 is complete!!  Love our boys!

  • I try to put it below my belly but I find that soon that's not going to work.  I'm already a big girl to begin with- I may have to go purchase a seat belt extender.

  • I read that its supposed to go under your belly, across your hip bones. Shoulder strap just wear as usual.

  • My paperwork from doctor says for lapbelt to go under your stomache.
  • Under the bump! Chest strap between your boobs and over the shoulder. I wore it like that with DS, and again this time. It's comfortable, and more importantly, safe.
