Are you ladies planning anything special to pamper yourselves? I'm gonna cut my hair super short here soon because it is growing very fast. I'm also planning on getting an manicure and pedicure a month before my due date.
I get my nails done very other week normally, and have been treating myself to one hour foot massages on the off weeks. I am lucky to have a huge selection of places around me that do it for $20! The money I have saved from not drinking while out more than offsets the cost.
My in-laws gave me a gift certificate for Mother's Day for a mini spa day (mani/pedi/massage). I hadn't had a chance to use it, but I have been working long days the past few weeks to finish out some projects for some clients. I am going to weddings the next two weekends, so I scheduled my mini spa day for tomorrow as a reward for finishing my projects and to make the feet look pretty. And the bonus is that I get to go straight from the pampering to my a/s!! I've got a good day scheduled for tomorrow
I'm going to buy myself a new robe for the hospital. The hot pink one I bought for my first delivery just doesn't feel like "me" anymore. Maybe I'll go wild and get some slippers too.
I keep hinting to my husband that a prenatal massage would be nice - I may just go ahead and spring for one myself sometime soon if he doesn't. I'm also in desperate need for a mani-pedi but my weekends have been booked solid and I work too late during week to get one
My nails are massively chipped now and it's embarrassing. I just don't have time.

I was given a spa gift card for Christmas last year and still haven't used it. I'm going to use it around my birthday next month for a maternity massage, pedi and facial.

I find it extremely hard to believe you do not have ONE spare hour. How do you plan on fitting a child into your schedule?
I had a prenatal massage last week. It was nice. However, it was kind of a "blah" massage because the therapist said she couldn't use firm pressure at risk of "releasing toxins" to the baby. I had never heard this before. I typically like deep tissue massages, so while it was relaxing, it wasn't as great as I thought it would be. Oh well. No other plans for pampering coming up.

I was told the same thing by the place I go to, so I haven't had one since I got pregnant. Based on your experience I will probably hold off until they can go back to beating the c*** out of me. :-)

uhh so they can't actually help with the pain like a real massage? I mean being stroked feels great, but I wanted one for actual relief...
@mclough Yeah, my thoughts exactly. It was a relaxing rub down but my back was just as sore when I left. I'm with you @sheslikeasunburn, I think I'll wait to have another massage until they can do it right.
I was given the whole "toxins" excuse as a reason I couldn't even get a massage in the 1st Tri. Then, I looked into it and a massage doesn't release toxins, it releases lactic acid which definitely isn't a toxin and doesn't harm the baby. If you want someone to beat the crap out of you, keep looking. Call and ask if they'll do deep pressure in your shoulders and upper back. The massage therapist at my chiropractor's office does everything she always has except the ultrasound massage.

Yeah, we have a good friend who owns a spa (it's actually on the second floor of my SO's office so I'm up there a lot anyway to buy products and to get spray tans when I'm not pregnant) and I think I'm going to ask her next time I see her. My experience I wrote about above was at a spa I had never been to in Napa. My back is so tight from my desk job and poor posture so I'm really hoping I can at least have her work on my upper back if nothing else.
I don't actually have anything planned yet - I need to get my hair cut, it's out of control from these prenatals lol also I think when I'm further along I will be getting a massage, I had one before my wedding and it was magical so I can only imagine how much better I'll feel after one while pregnant and uncomfortable!

I really hope you find someone. I have problems with my hips so I have my chiropractor fix me up and the massage therapist massages like she's tenderizing a roast.
Hubby and I are going on our first solo vacation in the 2 years since our son was born. We're taking a 4 day trip to Puerto Rico as a babymoon/anniversary present to each other. Luckily, because dh travels so much for work, he has enough frequent flyer miles to fly us down there for free and enough Marriott points to put us up in the hotel for free I'm really nervous about leaving my son for the first time but am looking forward to some adult time before the baby comes.
I took a long lunch yesterday and went and got a gel manicure...OMG, I should have waiting until I had time to go to the regular salon I frequent. She did four coats of shellac and managed to rip a chunk of skin out of my finger. I don't care that it was cheaper, I'm pretty sure there were a lot of health violations going on there. I'm praying that I do get an infection!
ETA: From the blind eye, it looked like a really clean shop.
It was my 30th birthday last month and MIL got me a package where I get one free massage per month for 6 mos! Great gift and I'm looking forward to using it.
I need to find a salon to get my hair cut because I haven't gotten it done in almost 10 months. I also talked to a girl at work that had a great manicure and I might go to the same place. I always just feel weird about spending money on myself, especially now that we're saving up for a baby and a house. DH keeps telling me to go but I always feel so bad

I hear you! I sleep when I'm not working so I'm not so nauseated. I have to get my hair cut right before work next week or my stylists couldn't fit me in. And I love the Amityville pic in your siggy!

Seriously? I have a very demanding career. I haven't gotten home until 9 or 10pm every single night this week and I have to leave at work by 545 tomorrow morning. Don't worry when I'll fit my child in- how rude of you. I work extremely hard and I'm known for being damn good at what I do. The baby isn't here yet, I'll adjust when I need to. I'm a television producer and we are in the midst of producing shows for November sweeps and I know my future child will be very prod of his mom and how hard she worked to give him the life he has.

My loving MIL bought me a few trips to my acupuncturist! She treated my migraines to the point where they are rare now, they used to be every other day, but I switched jobs and haven't been able to catch up on extra cash buying this baby stuff, the joys of being 3000 miles from anyone who can help

She said she didn't have time in her schedule for a mani/pedi. It's simply not in her priorities with a child on the way and a career. Just when you think you have seen it all... I am sure she will find time for her living child when it arrives...and she probably won't be too concerned with her mani/pedi schedule then either.
I really really want to do a little babymoon with my hubby, just a weekend or even one night away at a place in northern NH that I found that is really nice looking but not pricey. They also do prenatal massages so I was hoping to get one there if we do that. I have a feeling we won't be able to (finances) but it would be nice
I'd love to get a prenatal massage later in the pregnancy. Or a manicure. Or a pedicure. I've never had any of those actually done professionally, even for my wedding, so it'd be super nice to do that

Thank you - I can really care less about chipped nails right now - but here's an update... My boss saw my nails today and told me that she's going to write my script that's due today and I must leave early and fix my situation lol and she's paying for it. So, I guess I don't mind my nails but other people do - ha.
This is not the first time a coworker has called me out. Maybe it's better to just go naked on my nails for a while since I can't keep it up.

@inomniaparatus Wow that's really nice of your boss to let you leave early AND to pay for your manicure. That would never happen at my job! I used to have my nails done every 2 weeks (gel so they lasted two weeks) so they were always done. I have so much other stuff going on lately that I've had to prioritize, namely getting my house ready to sell during most of the hours that I'm not at work. So I've given up on my nails lately too and have just had them bare for several weeks. Chipped nails really annoy me (on myself) but I've gotten used to having them bare. And they are currently growing really fast and are really nice due to pregnancy so I think they still look good!

So to be clear you do have time, it's just not a priority. There is nothing wrong with that, and I'm not suggesting it should be a priority. I just think it's annoying that you throw around how you have "no time" frequently (similar to $$$). Most (if not all) of us are time-starved. I also have a very demanding job, and it's my busy season at work due to fashion weeks and the start of Holiday. I can relate to that.

sounds like you have a boss that really recognizes all your hard work- that's such a good feeling
Maybe this is an UO, but for me manicures/pedicures and massages aren't relaxing at all. I'm just not really into people touching me. My version of pampering will be a trip to DQ and some shopping!
All this talk about mani-pedi and pampering is making me sad!!!
I used to have time and disposable income to get my nails done every two weeks, and then go for regular spray tanning sessions. I also used to get my eye lashes done every month. I never went more than a couple of weeks between shopping sessions either! and I had a ridiculous handbag collection - I mean the "handbag consultant" (yep they exist) at the dept store would call me when they got the new season's collections in. My makeup was always done, my hair perfectly styled and I was always super dressed up (with no stains from my child!) This was all before my child, and before taking on a larger mortgage to be in a better school district.
Now I haven't gotten my nails done since he was born over 2 years ago, and I call it a success when I find time to cut my toe nails, I couldn't finish my make up this morning, because my child somehow ran off with my mascara and hid it somewhere. I noticed once I got to work that I have a bit of raspberry jam stuck on my pants - my kid was the only one who had anything this morning with jam on it. My nails are bare, my toes hidden in my shoes (not even heels!) and my hair is.... well at least, it's clean.
It's not that I can't possibly find time or money to go get my mani- pedi, it's just that my entire priority in life has changed drastically once he came into my life. If I have the time to go get a mani-pedi, I rather spend that time with my child digging mulch with his construction toys in our backyard, as I don't get to spend as much time with him as I would like to begin with.
But there is definitely a small part of me that misses the carefree, responsibility free days, where I was impeccably dressed, accessorized and well groomed.
I'm thinking about either getting a massage or going back to acupuncture again regularly. My body is so achy. A pedicure sounds nice, too. And a haircut. Lol I want so many things!

Did you not read my post? I actually don't have the time. I'm confused how you are confused. And how are you possibly offended by me saying that I don't have time? I don't have a monopoly on being a busy woman. There can be more than one. I'm never said I'm the only one. I've said I'm too busy to cook dinner most nights because that's true. I get home around 9pm from work quite often.

As an Esthetician who use to work at a day spa we HAD to have our nails done regularly. Giving clients facials it was required because they saw our nails constantly. I never liked it because our nails would just get messsed up by treatment products and waxing anyways. Since having our DS and being a SAHM this year I don't put much effort into my hair or wear makeup on a daily basis anymore. I feel bad about not keeping my looks up especially since being in the beauty industry I feel like our own look is a reflection of our work. I think i'll just give myself a facial lol
