Vaccine tip

Today, we took my baby in for his 2 month shots. The ped said he looked great and is now developmentally between 4-6 weeks. Since he was early, it was great to hear he is only a few weeks behind his actual age.

I asked my husband to come along because his office is less than a mile away. I am so glad I did! I got so emotional when the nurse gave my baby his shots. I was really not expecting to cry. So my tip is to bring a support person with you because you're probably going to feel really upset seeing your baby hurt like that.

Re: Vaccine tip

  • I was like that with DS1. Now I'm used to it with DS2.

  • I think every person is different. I didn't have my H there with my first. Yes, it was terrible seeing him in pain. However, I'd rather see him cry for a minute then come down with the whooping cough. All about perspective. My tip is for BF'ing moms: BF your baby while their getting the shots. It's soothes them right away, and for some babies they don't even cry.
    This.
  • Agreed. I took my mum with me for the first couple of rounds of shots for my older DD. With PPD, and a baby who cried around the clock, I couldn't take the additional screaming!
  • My husband had to hold down DD1 for the 2 month and 4 month shots because I couldn't handle it but after that I was fine. However I am sending him alone with her for her 4yr old shots cause that is going to be some drama.

  • I went alone for the first shot she received at 1 month old. I mentally prepared myself, knowing she would hate getting a shot. I didn't cry. But I did feel fully sad seeing her cry in pain. Awesome thing is, she only cried for less than a minute and was easy to soothe by carrying, hugging, and bouncing :)
