Babies: 9 - 12 Months

I locked my child in my car.

Ugh.  This was my biggest fear and it came true last night!  I was leaving my parents' house in a hurry and it just happened.  Jude has an ear infection and had to go to the doctor yesterday, I had just come back from the viewing of an old friend who committed sucide - and we had just made plans last week through Facebook to get our kids together, sigh ... anyway, it was cold, I was rushing, Jude was crying, and BAM- LOCKED IN THE CAR!

Fortunately, I was outside of my parents' house and the police station is about 2 blocks away, so they arrived in about 2 minutes.  By the time they got the door open, Jude was sound asleep in his car seat, but I felt just terrible.  What a crappy day.  The whole neighborhood was outside because I was SCREAMING like a lunatic.  Not my finest hour.

Oh well.  Today is a new day!  Hope everyone has a nice Friday!

  • That really sucks.  Might be one of my biggest fears.  But soooooo lucky it happened where it did and not somewhere else!  And now you'll be uber careful not to do it again!
  • AH!!  I'm so sorry that happened.  It is one of my biggest fears too.  I'm glad they got the door open quickly.  I thought I did this yesterday, but I had the key in my hand.  Sometimes I think I've lost my mind....

  • Oh no!  That sucks...but glad Jude got out quickly and was totally unphased by the whole thing.

And that's awful about your friend.  I'm so very sorry.

  • Oh no! I bet you were so upset. Hopefully today will go a little better, and you'll probably look back on the incident and laugh :)
  • Around here, pretty much every locksmith will unlock your car for free if a child is inside.

    Hope your day improves significantly!

  • Hopefully today will go so much better for you. I'm so sorry about your friend. Locking DS in the car is so scary and because I'm always moving so fast and absent minded on top of that, I am so so scared it's going to happen.
  • I have a key hidden under one of the wheel wells on my car in case that ever happens. Because, let's face it, it's something I would do. I left my purse on the floor of a Taco Bell. (But at least I remembered my kid.)
  • that's one of the reasons i leave a spare car key at my parent's house.  i'm terrified it'll happen to me.

i'm sorry about your friend.  i hope your day gets better.

  • Ugh, I'm sorry. Glad Jude is ok, and isn't it great that today is a new day.  We all need those sometimes.  And I'm very sorry about your friend.
  • Oh, no! I am so sorry to hear not only about Jude being locked in, but also your friend's death. How horrible!

Glad everything turned out okay. (((Hugs)))?

  • City that sounds like a truly horrendous day. ((hugs)) I'm glad Jude is alright and I'm sorry about your friend.

  • My friend did this one year at a bbq, we were all outside, she put her child in the car and shut the door to grab her bags and bam - doors were locked. She was in hysterics as well.

Terrible about your friend, her poor kids...... :(

  • oh that stinks! glad the police could get there quickly. i guess the upside is that Jude wasn't freaking out and just fell asleep. so only mommy was traumatized, I think we'd all take that option.??:) sorry about your friend. that is very unfortunate.
  • I locked my son in our house when he was about two months old. ?He was taking a nap and I decided it was a good time to run to the mailbox-not knowing that my husband had locked the garage door the night before. ?The worst part was that I had to call my MIL to come unlock the door. ?I'm sure she added that right to her list of things I do wrong! ?(DS was asleep when we got in and probably never even knew I was gone)
