Tilted uterus and ultrasound

hey everyone ! I had an appt today and had an abdominal ultrasound at 9 wks 2 days . This is my second ultrasound , the first was vaginal at 6 wks and I saw the heartbeat which was great . However , today the doctor couldn't see the baby with the abdominal us . She saw what she believed to be the placenta but was not sure . She said she was worried about the pregnancy being viable since she couldn't see much . She also said that it could just be my tilted uterus and ordered a vaginal ultrasound , which of course isn't for another few days . Has anyone else had issues similar to this . I'm a nervous wreck right now !

  • I am so sorry u are going thru this! Prayers

  • Thank you , I really appreciate it
  • I too have a titled uterus which I learned at our first ultrasound last week at 8 weeks, 2 days. They got a better shot of the baby with a vaginal ultrasound. I wouldn't be too concerned, I think the ultrasound techs sometimes say unnecessary things which can easily be taken out of context (I'm guilty of it!). Hang in there!
  • Mine is tilted too and I also have to have transvaginal u/s until 12 weeks to get the best pictures. Everything is probably fine! These tilted uteruses (uteri?) cause so many issues!! Hang in there and keep us posted.

  • Mine is tilted and I got better images with an internal ultrasound very early on. Also having a very full bladder helped, as it pushed my uterus up.
  • Uterus position does not effect ultrasound clarity. If you're anteflexed, anteverted, retroflexed, or retroverted it honestly doesn't make much difference. Uterus portions vary greatly and is very common. With an early abdomen ultrasound the only things that could prevent a good image are body habitus, an unfull bladder, or being overly gassy. I see several patients that I cannot see anything abdominally but can see beautifully internally. It happens every single day with 1st trimester patients. Please try and not worry about it. Easier said than done I know!

  • Thanks for the all of the support . I went to get my ultra sound today and they found the baby right away with a strong heart beat ! I'm so relieved , the tilted uterus does cause so much unneeded panic !
  • @sbrogan89 ... thank goodness
  • I also have a retroverted uterus....never had any problems from it though! Hope this helps!!
