Early Intervention

Hey Ladies,.

Have any of you had EI with one of your kids? DS will start on Friday due to his stay in the NICU and his corpus collosum (sp) is thin, they feel he may have some developmental delays at one point or another.

I've always heard great stories about how kids benefit from EI but I'm getting nervous DS wont be that Kid.

  • Mine is still in it, although this is her last month as she turns 3 in october. She had language delay and sensory issues (due to autism).
At first it won't look like much; but the results for my little one have been amazing. It took a year before we got any words, but the OT and ST have been a huge blessing! A friend of mine has her DD in it for physical issues and she is reporting excellent results as well. She started at 6 months. My DD started at 19 months . Either way, it's well worth it.
  • No experience but I've heard good things. DS was diagnosed w Down syndrome so we obviously have to do EI and have an assessment Sept 30. I know our situations are obviously different but I'm sure it will benefit your LO! I pray my guy is high functioning and that EI helps him!

Made a big difference with my DS1 and DS2. It didn't seem like big changes at first. It was gradual. Both are in a developmental preschool now and are continuing to make strides. EI here even had a play group that I could take the boys to. Never really got to know the other parents, but it was nice to get the boys out in a judgement free place.
  • I have a friend who does this for a living and they really tailor it to what LOs need to develop. If mine ever needed it, I would be glad to have it. Good luck!

  • EI is a fantastic resource for families and children.
I do not have experience personally but understand how you could be nervous.
Hang in there. IT is great you started early because after 3 years of age it because very difficult to get resources and referrals are not as easy to come by.
  • Thank you Ladies I feel a lot better now

  • It did wonders for my niece. She had delays do to being early and prenatal drug exposure. The EI people identified the need for a physical therapist that taught us some exercises to do with her and got her right back on track developmental wise.
