Babies: 9 - 12 Months

XP: Need help re: diaper rash.

Okay, so this is Spider Pig's first diaper rash and he's had it for two days.  He's got two teeth that have been coming in since christmas, so I know its due to that.

My question is, when treated, how long should the rash last?  We've been changing his diaper religiously every hour (usually do anyways because he's a big wetter) and I've tried using Butt Paste, Aquaphor, and I've resorted to the Extra Strength Desitin for his poor little tush.

It's not a bad rash, I've seen worse on other babies, but the poor little bug is uncomfortable enough already what with the teeth and his 6 month shots yesterday.

So?  Thoughts?  I plan on giving him some quality naked time after his bath later this morning, so that should help some too.

TIA! ;-)

  • It could be yeast as well.  You could try lotrimin.

  • Try a bath with baking soda dissolved in the water. It soothes the skin. I do that with DD and she feels better, not to mention bathing usually makes them feel better in general so between teething, rash and shots, I'd say give a bath a shot!
  • Naked time is the best thing for it!  We CD, and DD rarely gets a rash.  She recently had one, and I let her go coverless (so the air gets at it), and it was gone within a day.  I did some research on it, and from what I've read, if you're doing all the steps (naked time, changing often, using just water and not wipes for a bit, and making sure they're dry before putting on the next diaper) it should only last a few days....but that was the internet, so who knows!!
  • I have always had excellent results with triple paste. We use Desitin to prevent, but triple paste to treat. the rash usually resolves in less than a day. You may also try letting him sit on a towel without a diaper to play. The fresh air helps dry out the area too (oh wait you have a boy, I don't know if that would work)

  • If it is a yeast rash then diaper oinment will make it worse.

Ditto the baking soda bath and naked time.

  • I seriously like putting nipple cream on diaper rash. If it's a really bad one with all red bumps, make sure it's completely dry (I like to use the hair dryer with the cool button pushed down) and then coat it with Lansinoh cream.
