Transfer and shots! Help!

hi ladies-

So I got my potential transfe date, 9/23!!! But I have to start progesterone shots on the 19th and my husband will be traveling out of the country (work related and can't be moved) so I have to administer the shots myself, which I have never done. Any advice? It's the progesterone in oil...I am nervous about doing it right.

Also, the transfer date is on a Wednesday when my Accupuncturist is closed! I am seeing if she can recommend anyone else as I know doing it the morning and evening of the procedure increases the implantation chances. But what do I if I can't get a season on the date?!

Any advice?

I know I have to stay calm.

  • Oh my! I didn't realize you could administer those yourself. Can anyone else help you do them? What does your Re suggest/say?

I'm sorry I'm not more help as I haven't had any experience with them myself some I opted for the vaginal inserts instead. I don't trust my DH administering those for me. Lol

The progesterone oil injections weren't too bad, so don't get too nervous about them. They are really doable!

I actually found it easier to do them myself while looking in a mirror. My Doctors office said it's not that common for someone to do it on their own but DH would get worked up and it would make me anxious. He really hated hurting me even though it was for the best and the pain wasn't bad and didn't last long. Plus, I had to do two injections a day and didn't want to wake up hours before I had to so he could do my morning injections.
What I found worked best for me was I would ice the area for 5 minutes while warming the injection in my hand, then do the injection, rub the area for 5 minutes to try and disperse the medicine, then I would use a heating pad for 15 minutes on medium heat to help disperse the progesterone even more. I added the heating pad after noticing the rubbing in wasn't working out as well as I had hoped and I have a few lumps forming. I also made sure to do the injections standing on an old towel. There were a few times I'd hit a hot spot and blood would come out a little faster and in higher quantity than I was prepared for.
It becomes such a routine that eventually, you won't even think about it anymore. I would just stand in the mirror, kind of to the side and just say "1, 2, 3" and stab it in.

Try not to get too worked up about it. Good luck and Fx it works out for you.

  • Thank you this was helpful! You are right, I need to get over my fears and just do this. Can't let a needle get in between me and my baby!!!
  • The PIO injections are surprisingly easier that the stomach shots. I was terrified but I've been doing them for 6 weeks now and it's just a regular routine for me in the morning like brushing my teeth. You'll get through it!
