Hello to everyone!

I am new to this IVF venture and could use clarification from people who may have done PGS.

I am 35 years old and my husband is 39. When we were told of the option of doing the screening,

I started reading up on it. We have done 5 IUIs in the past year and a half...one took but unfortunately,

it was ectopic. Anyway, frustrated of the past failures, and being placed in the "unknown infertility" category,

and considering our age (especially mine), we are highly considering opting to do PGS.

My question is...when you did PGS, how long did it take to get the results back? Can a fresh embryo

transfer happen with PGS or did you have to freeze the embryo and wait til the following month (or so) to transfer?

Hi! I'm 34.5 with known male and female fertility issues (pcos/low morph). 2 IUIs no success before being told we needed to move to IVF bc of DH low morph. No pregnancies ever to date, so no miscarriages.

We opted not to do the PGS based on our individual factors, but it definitely sounds like you may find out useful information on your first IVF with it. Unfortunately, it does take extra time and your body will fall out of step with the embryos. You will not do a fresh transfer, but the good news is that with PGS and a frozen transfer the following month, your odds of a successful transfer go up! Also- if they haven't done so yet, your doctor will put you on OCPs (birth control) for approx. 3 weeks to manage your follicles so if you are on the antagonist protocol, you are looking at 3 months for 1 cycle with PGS. Month 1: birth control, 2: stims and ER (egg retrieval), 3: FET (frozen embryo transfer).

You may also lose a significant number of embryos during PGS testing depending on your infertility factors (age alone means about 40% of the eggs have issues) so prepare for that and understand the ones you have remaining will be the best quality and therefore most likely to make it to live birth, potentially saving you the heartache of implantation failure or miscarriage. @HBamama2B Thank you for the info. A friend of mine used the same doctor that I am seeing now and I know that they opted for PGS (due to her age (36-37) and unknown infertility factor) but I don't remember her telling me that they had to do a frozen embryo transfer. I did more reading and found that some clinics can do the testing on day 5 and transfer on Day 6. That I guess I would have to ask my doctor or coordinator, if they do it that way or suggest that I freeze after testing. There are so many factors to consider that this IVF business is overwhelming!

I am starting the birth control today. Did blood work and initial ultrasound last Friday. Waiting for my coordinator to get back to me about scheduling my Hysteroscopy and Mock Transfer. Hoping that my blood work and the hubby's semen analysis result doesn't show anything abnormal.

Well, that sounds like a better answer then! My clinic did not offer a day 6 transfer, but I've seen women on here who do it. FX for a successful cycle for you!

@LoveBulldogs99 my clinic also offered getting the biopsies back in 24 hours, since I have PCOS, they want to do a FET anyhow as getting pregnant post stims increases risks of OHSS, but the 1 day return on the PGS was an additional $1500

We are doing PGS testing and are waiting on the results. It's been almost two weeks. It depends on where they send the samples. We have to do the frozen transfer. We chose to do it because of our ages. I am 38 and hubby is 43. Unexplained infertility. We are going nutty waiting for the results! We started with 15 then after the 5 days we had 6 that made it. So, with the PGS testing we are hoping for at least one or two!!!!! Fingers crossed. We should have the results tomorrow.

@joyzie77 Wow! Two weeks for the result? Good luck and let us know what happens.

My doctor actually wrote a book (and was nice enough to give me a "free" copy) about infertility and the subject of PGS/PGD was of course discussed. It really all depends on the method used to do the PGS and if the lab is in house or they use an outside lab. I believe my RE runs his own lab and employs embryologists to perform those testings - which is one of the reasons we went with him because he is very involved with the lab and has been recognized for it (Also the reason why I think his place is a bit more costly than my previous doctor - $5100 for PGS on 12 embryos!!! Yikes >_< ). You just hope that whoever is handling your embryo will take good care of it as if it is their own. The thought of someone taking some cells from your embryo is a bit nerve racking but after weighing the pros and cons, it is a gamble we are willing to take. We just hope that it will ultimately pay off.

I'm 37, DH is 41 and we are unexplained. We did our first IVF in 2011 with no PGS and fresh transfer of 2 embryos on day 5 that resulted in our first DS. We were able to freeze 2 embryos from that cycle. In 2014 we did a FET with the 2 grade AA frozen that resulted in a m/c.

We did another IVF cycle after the m/c and this time we opted to do the PGS. We retrieved 33 eggs, sent 12 embryos to the lab for PGS testing and ended up with 5 normal embryos. In my clinic we get the result from the PGS back after 5 days but my RE prefers to do FET instead of fresh transfer after the PGS because that way they can prepare the cycle better without any risk of OHSS. We did SET in December 2014 and our 2nd DS is 2 weeks old today.

To me the cost of the PGS totally worth it to reduce the risk of another miscarriage and the possibility of multiples.

Hello. I'm 42 and DH is 32. We have unexplained infertility. I have 2 kids from a previous relationship. We have done 2 rounds of fresh IVF day 3 transfer without PGS; First one took but resulted in MC. Second one didn't take. We are currently doing our 3rd fresh IVF cycle but opted for PGS this time. We started out with 13 embryos but ended up with 5 after day 5. After PGS, we now have 2 good embryos. PGS turn around time for our clinic is 1 week and an additional $2170 cost. FET is planned for November. DH and I have to decide now whether to transfer 1 or 2 embryos.

I am hoping that the additional cost of PGS this time will give us results!

So we got the results back and we have 3 embryo's that are good after the PGS testing.
