Spotting at 24 weeks

Hello all. Sorry for TMI, but I am 23+5 weeks with my first pregnancy. I've never had any problems with spotting before but this evening I went to the restroom and wiped and there was bright red blood. I wiped again and it was gone. I haven't had sex in 3 days, and from my anatomy scan 3 weeks ago, my cervix and placenta are completely normal and in a good location. Baby girl has been kicking all day and I'm not experiencing any pain. It's past 10 pm so the doctor office is closed. I know I'm probably over reacting but seeing that blood has really freaked me out and being a ftm I don't know what to expect. Anyone else experienced this before

    Does your Doctor's office have an after hours phone number? If so, you should call! I haven't had this happen to me, but that's what I would do. Hope everything turns out to be okay.

    My midwives have told me a number of times spotting is super normal, but they ask every appointment because they want to know if I'm experiencing any. I would notify your Dr and ask if they have any concerns, but you'll likely be told that unless you're filling a pad or cramping there's no reason to worry.

    I have a number for labor and delivery that I'm to use after hours in a case of emergency. From what I've read, unless it's consistent, I should be fine. Baby girl is moving around like crazy as I type this so I know she is fine. But I am calling the doctor's office first thing in the morning just so it will be in my chart for their records. I just pray this never happens again!

    This happened to me at 21 weeks with some mild cramping luckily I was at work and my charge nurse send me over to L&D to get monitored (work at a hospital) and told me everything looked good with baby and to just make sure to stay hydrated specially with the heat and sure enough my cramping went away after having idk how many ounces of water . I did follow up with my Obgyn and he checked my cervix to make sure it wasn't thinning out or opening and everything was perfect , so he said prob from dehydration and uterus expanding it might of caused a lil irritation which made me spot. So if you see that it was just that one time then i would just call in the morning and have them check you out just to be safe , because I know how nerve wracking it can be . Never hurts to double check just in the mean time stay hydrated and relax and lay on your left side :) oh and I'm currently 22 weeks 2days ftm as well !

    I had some spotting a couple days ago. I actually think the... ahem... discharge makes the bleeding look more severe than it is. Unless the bleeding persists or is accompanied by cramping, I actually don't think it's worth doing anything about. Mention it at your next appointment but I wouldn't be making any extra visits.

    You should call your doctor. Doesn't have to be immediately, but in the morning for sure. There are a lot of insignificant reasons for spotting and some not so insignificant. It's better to let your doctor examine you and rule out anything than to sit and worry or let it get worse.
    I had spotting a few weeks ago that was old brownish blood and it was a one time occurrence. My dr examined and found a tiny marginal sinus bleed on my placenta, which is also low-lying, so I'm now on pelvic rest. It sounds worse than it is but had I ignored it, I could have made it worse.

    Also, if you have spotting for the first time and you are RH negative, might they want to give you the shot? That's the reason I plan to give my doc a call even if I only have minor spotting.

    I completely forgot about this part! Yes, you will have to get a shot if RH negative.

    My midwives always tell me at this point we don't want to see any blood if so call the office or the emergency line (which I have it's the on call dr or midwife at the time they are super nice and helpful) it's better for them to know than to not know how I see it. Because you don't know what it could be and we can't tell you everything will be fine because we simply aren't midwives or ob's.
