2nd Trimester

Heavy feeling above pelvic bone

I am 17w6d and for the past three days I have been experiencing this heavy feeling in my uterus. The pressure starts about 3 inches below my belly button is the heavy feeling is centrally located right there above my pelvic bone. I feel the pressure the most when sitting or laying. It seems to be better when I am standing but never goes away entirely. It is just really strange because it makes me feel like I need to pass gas but try as I might I can't. Like I said the heaviness started Saturday and has been constant since then it is not a sensation that comes and goes. I also notice that baby does most of its kicking in the same area.

Is this happening with anyone else?

When I google these symptoms a bunch of scary crap comes up and it just makes me more nervous!

I would call your doctor and see what they have to say. I wouldn't Google and freak yourself out.

  • The baby is probably just kicking and moving a whole lot there even if you don't feel every movement just yet and that makes your muscles tired in that area which is causing that heavy feeling.  I've been feeling this sometimes lately lower near my cervix and everything is fine with my cervix so I was confused too but my baby girl usually is kicking around that lower region between my belly button and around the pubic bone and I'm 19 weeks.  A friend of mine that is a nurse practitioner gave me this piece of useful info. because I was worried when I searched google too!

  • Sounds like your little one is starting to grow a little more! :) At the point of your pregnancy currently, is when the baby starts growing more, and you will feel pressure around the pelvis and lower abdomen area. (also known as round ligaments) What you're feeling, is most likely movement of your baby, without the kicks and whatnot...for now! You will also have issues with passing gas, and whatnot, as well. That's also normal.

But if you're really worried about anything, check with your doctor, and see if you can get an appointment(if needed), to help put you at ease. :)
  • I've been feeling similar heaviness in my lower pelvis since last week, but I saw my doctor today for my 20wk ultrasound and everything looked fine. Hope this eases your worries!
