Hy Girls! I have PCOS, I was diagnosed when I was 27 and I'm 30 now and I finally found someone I want to have children with. I'm starting Clomid soon. My next doctors appointment is June 25. Any ideas or tips I would appreciate.

Thank you!

Lili

Re: Starting Clomid for the first time.

  • Well, that's not a lot of info. Tips... how about having sex?

How long have you been trying? What are your cycles like? How were you diagnosed with PCOS? Was the Clomid prescribed by an RE? Will you be monitored during your cycle?

  • Everything both PP said. Please don't take unless RE RX and actively monitors you.
  • Hi! I also have PCOS and was wondering the same. I'm going to see an RE next month due to that diagnosis and not ovulating. I'm still anticipating doing several tests and other less serious steps before going to Clomid. With PCOS, often losing even 10 pounds will get ovulation going if you are above your ideal weight. Also, metformin can help with weight loss and ovulation. From my reading, if all that gets done and you're still having problems, then Clomid is a good idea, providing all testing was good and you are monitored regularly.

Regardless of how long you have been trying, REs will happily see you due to your prior diagnosis.

    Hello everyone.

Sorry I took so long to answer. Still trying to get used to this forum thing.
Let me tell you a little bit more.

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 27 back when I used to live in Holland. I wasn't TTC-ing, I went to see my Dermatologist to get rid of facial hair which is normal for women who have PCOS. All my life living in Aruba no doctor has ever told me of the possibility of PCOS, and I have visited numerous doctors to try and get rid of my facial hair.

The Dermatologist I saw in Holland asked me about my cycles and immediately recognized it as PCOS. He then immediately send me to go see a Gynecologist. The GYN then did a blood test on me and also an echo in which he further confirmed the cysts in my ovaries.

PS: @firebaby688 I am not overweight so we ruled that out, but I am eating more folic acid and less carbs because I heard that helps. And I try to always lead a healthy lifestyle.

I am now living back in Aruba and it was until November 2014 that I stopped BC entirely and decided to just BD like crazy! :p
We soon realized nothing wasn't happening when in March my cycle was 3 months long! And after countless of HPT with BFN I decided to consult a GYN here.

So you can understand a little of what it's like, there is 2 offices and of which 1 just recently opened. All GYN here on Aruba work under that one roof with Dr. Ho Kang Yo and basically you just get the GYN that is available and he or she treats you from then onwards.
My luck was that the GYN that I got is one of the doctors that was also opening the new office and now that she is treating me I will also be taken over by her when she moves into her new office. With less clients and more time to dedicate to the patient. I have friends who visited the Dr. Ho Kang Yo office and they had to wait in the waiting room about 7 hours!!! The most I had to wait so far has been 1 hour. Thank god!

So this GYN that I got, a dutch lady who has been working here for over 4 years now also did an echo with me and confirmed that my uterus looks good and only my ovaries had cysts. But it all looked good and under control.

She recommended Clomid because it appeared I have been having un-ovulatory cycles.

So August 11th I got AF and on CD3 I went in for a blood test. (She wanted to check if I had any other deceases too, so she got me tested for hepatitis among other things.)

On CD3 till CD7 I took clomid and on CD14 I was checked by my GYN, we did an echo and we saw 2 follicles, 1 on each side that seem to be growing.

Last monday I took a PT and it came out BFN.

I have an appointment next week Tuesday, which will result as CD43 unless I get a BFP or AF!

If I get my period my doctor has already prescribed me with 2 more sets of 5 pills each for 2 more rounds of clomid. (hopefully I will only have to use one more). And then we are off to round 2!

So far this has been my journey. In November 2015 I will be officially 1 year TTC-ing. Let's hope we make it before then.

I have been reading the experiences of other users and the posts have been really helpful to me.

PS: So sorry I am still learning the abbreviations. Thank you for understanding.

    Much Love!

  • I agree with other posters about making sure to see an RE while you take the clomid. I took it before my last pregnancy and it thinned my uterine lining. I ended up having to change to Letrozole and got pregnant after the first cycle. But if the RE didn't see the thinning of my uterine lining, I would have kept taking the clomid with no success!!
  • Hy @jaceyannie.

Here in Aruba we don't have RE. We only have GYN. But I will ask my GYN about the thinning of the uterine lining in our next appointment and I will also ask why we don't have any RE's in Aruba.

I will keep Letrozole in mind just in case.

PS: she does an echo on me every time I go in for a check up. I will inform better about how the uterine lining should be checked. Because since I am not a doctor I am not sure about that.

    Thank you for the feedback.

  • Use the search bar and look for Clomid threads. The Borg and a few other ladies are incredibly well-versed in this area and have explained it quite well. I believe they have broken down what an re looks for vs an obgyn. Good luck.
  • Thank you @linsbins. I have done that and have read a few treads. I will continue to do so. Thank you! :)

  • Sry @bsckgb7 I didn't understand your post. :s

    update:
AF started on sept 18th so now on CD5 and on 2nd round of clomid.
Visited GYN today and she is going to check my progesteron level on CD25 to see if I ovulated properly.
I also bought a pack of OPK's and I'm going to try predicting my ovulation at home.

Now I have a couple of questions for the experts on The Bump! I could really use the help.

I'm a little confused about the OPK. Some people tell me it's better to test in the morning and the package saids avoid doing it in the morning because the pee it "intenser" (I don't know how to say this in english, the package is in dutch).
So what would you recommend? In the morning or afternoon or night?

Ever since I started TTC-ing I feel like I am back at school! And I'm studying to become some sort of fertility specialist. I've been researching what progesterone is and what all I can do or avoid to do to help my progesterone levels get higher.
Does anyone have any experience or any diets they can recommend? (I'm currently looking at plenty of PCOS diets online, would still love to hear other ideas or diets and personal experiences).

I must say that clomid has affected my emotional state and I feel very moody and I am trying very hard to keep calm and realize when I am being over exaggerated.

Thank you to everyone who answered my questions so far.

First you shouldn't continue to update your old posts. That's what PP meant by zombie alert.

Second, are you seeing an RE?

    Hy @lulucooks

Thank you for the explanation, but this is not an old post? It's from June 2015 when I started visiting my GYN and now I am going on my second round of Clomid.

I understand the forum has many rules and quite frankly it's a little confusing still for me. And I kept updating this post because I wanted to keep everyone who ever commented updated on how I'm doing. Which I appreciate dearly everyone who commented and showed interest in my post.

Could you enlighten me if I am posting incorrectly how it should be done? Should I open a new thread?

As I mentioned above in a previous comment, in my country we don't have any RE, we only have GYN. And TBH I forgot to ask my doctor today when I went in for my appointment what is the difference to GYN's here.

    Thank you again.

    Much Love,

  • When I went in for my appointment today she did an ultrasound again and she told me my uterine lining was good. She also measured the follicles that started to develop. I am on CD5 today.

You can discuss all this in the daily TWW and WTO threads. People will keep up with your progress there. 3 months is a very old thread, we have dozens a day and to keep bumping your own personal thread moth after month is rude.

I ask about the RE because OPK's aren't reliable with Clomid, I assume your doctor would have told you that.
