Braxton Hicks??

Hey ladies... FTM here, 35 weeks tomorrow... Please don't judge me, but what do your BH feel like?? I'm pretty sure I've either never had them yet or just don't feel them?

Re: Braxton Hicks??

  • You'd definitely know :) Your whole entire tummy gets rock hard. I get them constantly, and I find them super uncomfy.

  • I'm 34 weeks and for the past 2 weeks I get 5-10 an hour. My stomach gets rock hard and I feel pressure on my diaphragm. Mine last for about a minute. They are uncomfortable, but not terribly painful.
  • Hi mama! First time mom here too, I think I've been having them too. They come in when I'm being physically active and when I'm laying down. What they feel like for me is a really strong cramp on one or both sides of my belly, and my belly seems to be a little harder while it's happening. They only last for 30 seconds to a minute. I feel like if I apply pressure with my hand, stop what I'm doing, and focus on what's going on, I breathe deep in and out until it's over. I want to really feel like I can "breathe it out" since that is a method I will be relying heavily on when the real ones start to come.
  • Hi! FTM here too. I didn't start noticing anything until recently, and it's funny that I've found this post today because I definitely think I've had quite a few this morning. They aren't painful, but they are a little uncomfortable. They just feel awkward - almost like my stomach is balling up. It happens on one or both sides, as PP mentioned. I usually try changing positions or walking a bit to lessen the tension. Isn't it crazy not having any idea what's going on with your body at times?! Such a new and weird/neat feeling...
  • Interesting, so my belly gets rock hard pretty often, but it has never hurt or felt uncomfortable. I guess that's a good thing? :) Thanks for your answers, mommas!
  • I have Braxton hicks all the time, no pain, not uncomfortable, stomach just gets really hard too, I'm not complaining:)

I'm glad I'm not the only one!! I just thought it was weird I hadn't felt pain with them, so I wasn't sure if that's what they actually were.... Makes me wonder if they'll be painful when they're real. (Joking of course!!) I guess we'll just be able to know for sure when they're the real thing, huh?
  • I've been getting them a ton lately! Feels like tightening of either my whole belly or just a side, but the whole thing gets rock hard as others were saying. Uncomfortable for sure. Usually changing position gets rid of them for me - standing/walking if I was stationary, or sitting/lying if I was up or moving when they started. The other day they kept up no matter what I was doing and a friend suggested laying with my feet up up high as what worked for her and it helped within a few minutes. A good tip if you're having trouble getting them to stop!
  • I am not 100% sure if I have been having them or not but I do feel pain that I can hardly walk sometimes and just hunch over but if I wait a couple minutes then I can walk upright again. My stomach feels hard most of the time because of the way the baby is balled up so that's why I am not sure if they are Braxton hicks or not. Any one else been feeling the same?
  • Fwiw I didn't think I had them with my first but have figured it out this time around. Mine aren't exactly painful but just.... Different feeling. I think the first time around I thought it was baby's position or movement that made me feel that but can differentiate this time around. :)

  • @mrsdobbie Same here. This is so different than my previous pregnancies that I almost feel like a FTM.
  • Mine are so uncomfy, but the pain is always at the top of my tummy... Think I had a few actual contractions the other day while being monitored by machine at the hospital and those felt like cramps where the pain is much lower ... So confusing... I'm 35 weeks tomorrow.
  • 3rd time mum here, I never felt them with my previous two pregnancies but have been feeling them since approx 14weeks this time. It's like pressure slowly builds up, tummy gets hard and uncomfortable then it fades away. Never painful but it's exactly like the real thing, you feel the pain build up then fade away. Very much like a wave passing over!
  • For me it's tightness that starts near my back and then travels around toward my belly button and then feels like there is something hard, almost like a turtle shell, attached to my stomach. Mine haven't been painful and I haven't had an uncomfortable one until today when it lasted for almost 10 minutes... THAT got a little uncomfortable. But it's the only time it's lasted that long.
  • Yes I didn't think I had them but reading this post made me realize that I have them all the time they just don't bother me at all lol
  • I think I have them - more and more frequently with each progressing week. Mine seem to just occur on one side of my bump (usually the side where all the activity happens - right side). I would not call them painful, rather tight and a tad uncomfortable. I also think they occur more when I am actively doing things like cleaning the house and working in the yard.
  • FTM here as well. I have them and your abdomen should feel as hard as your forehead when they're happening. Just generally uncomfortable for me, but not painful. I do the "penguin walk" when they're happening because I can't move my torso like normal. It's funny (to me, anyway) when half my uterus is doing it and the other half isn't; I call it my bi-polar uterus.
