Is anyone elses dog acting weird around them?

So this is kind of a weird question to ask but I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing their dog acting weird in the last few weeks of pregnancy. My due date is the 27th and my dog has to be touching me at night. Doesn't matter where but she has to be. She also doesn't like other people to be around me unless it's my fiance or my father... She will bark and bark at them. And today she won't eat her food she just lays beside me and when I get up she has to be under my feet (i live in a small apartment so that doesn't work out too well) I'm just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this or has and maybe went into labor? Just looking for opinions!

Re: Is anyone elses dog acting weird around them?

  • She knows something is happening. They can sense changes in our bodies even before we can. I know my little dog knew I was pregnant before I did because he randomly got even clingier than usual.

My due date is next week, and for the past couple days he will not let me out of his sight. He has to be in the same room with me, preferably right next to me. He even lays in the bathroom floor when I'm taking showers and baths, when normally he runs and hides because he thinks we're going to give him a bath LOL.

I would say it's possible that labor isn't too far off. :)

  • One of our dogs has been acting strange the last couple of days. He just sits and barks at us for no apparent reason. We let him out, feed him, make sure his water is filled - and yet the barking continues. When we try to call him to us he will continue to just sit and bark...it's strange. Eventually he settles into his normal routine but these little episodes are fairly consistent.....like he knows something is about to happen.

As for our other dog....as they say - ignorance is bliss!

  • There is a big thread on this already, but you are so not alone!  Try searching for it in the side search bar--dogs know everything :)
  • Absolutely.  This is our second LO and our dogs are acting exactly the same as they did when I was preggers the first time around.  One of our dogs developed a lick granuloma from anxiety last time that landed her in a cone and we just noticed that she's doing it again!  I cannot handle a cone, a two year old and an infant, so I'm trying to be super proactive by giving her lots of attention and spraying her with the bitter apple spray.  Hope it works!
  • Yup! My dog started getting super protective of me once I got pregnant (he's a 14-lb bichon) and would get angry if my husband would approach me at times and even bit my aunt when she came near me when I was 8 months pregnant!

We brought the baby home a few weeks ago and while the dog was fine the first night, he was TERRIBLE the next day. He started guarding me and the baby and would charge after my husband whenever he left the room or came near me, and probably would have bit him if he didn't know how to handle it. That night he snapped at me when I went to pick up the baby and then spent the rest of the night in his kennel in the basement where he barked for three hours straight. Not good. We called a dog trainer the next morning and have an appointment in two days ... my parents have been watching the dog since then. It was definitely stressful, as if taking care of a newborn isn't hard enough! And of course I love my dog so much that it just breaks my heart that he's acting that way and I just want to fix it! Hopefully the trainer can help give us the tools we need to help fix the situation! I know our dog just needs to learn his place in the family and that he doesn't need to guard us, but everything we've tried sure hasn't worked!
