Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Why is my baby suddenly extremely fussy at 6 weeks?

My son just turned 6 weeks yesterday and for the last 3 days he has been EXTREMELY fussy. He sleeps good at night but as soon as day time comes he only naps about 20 minutes at a time and we can't get him to stop crying when he's awake. Is this normal? What can we try to soothe him? I feel like we've been trying everything. Will this pass?

  • We've tried every position, he doesn't seem to have tummy pain and he's pooping normally, I can't say if its before or after he eats because its just all the time, we get him to go to sleep and he sleeps for 10-20 minutes and then we start all over again. I haven't talked to the pediatrician yet.
  • I haven't read it, I will look into it thank you!
  • Unfortunately it's all pretty normal. Do you swaddle for naps?
  • Same thing here. It is a 6 week growth spurt and can be a sleep regression as well. It will pass. LO has been sleeping on my husband and I for 2 days! Exhausting, but worth it. Lots of extra cuddles and LO will be fine.
  • My daughter had a growth spurt at 3 weeks and another at 5-6 weeks (she's 7 weeks now). She doesn't like to be on her back, she'd rather be held up on my shoulder. The doctor said she most likely feels like she has more
Control of her body this way and once she can roll over she'll be more content on her back. But she has the same problem during growth spurts, she doesn't nap and she's always hungry. We basically just have to hold her while she's sleeping and she'll sleep for several hours. Sometimes they just want to feel your warmth and hear your heartbeat :)
