Why are doctors so.... Ugh!

So, about 4 1/2 weeks ( based on ovulation late) so obv barely prego. Over the weekend I had some pinkish spotting and a bit of brown discharge too since my BFP. Called this morning and they said to come in.

So good news, based off blood work last week my HCG went from 33 to 65 in less then 48 hours which is encouraging. And the doc today tells me my cervix is closed and looks really good. So I'm all feeling great. And then she tells me she wants to do a pelvic ultrasound next week due to the bleeding so I'm happy because hopefully I'll get a feel for how things are progressing.

So all good-ish stuff right? Well then she diagnosis a yeast infection ( I had been itchy ) and tells me she is calling in a topical treatment because IF I am pregnant she doesn't want me on diflucan. IF. I mean. Really???? If. Why are doctors so freaking just. Ugh. Can't they just say " everything looks good for now, let's keep an eye on things"???? Now I'm a mess because of that one little word :(

Hoping my levels are strong tomorrow. Good thoughts to all, just venting over here!!

  • Argh! I'm right there with you... was told I'd have my repeat level results today so I called at 3 and got no answers... should know tomorrow or Wednesday now... Dr's guess was that I was 4wks last week and there was nothing on US to see because of it... Don't they know that it's nerve wracking?!?!?!?!?!?

  • I'm so sorry you had that experience. Sometimes doctors have the worst bedside manner which is hurtful and annoying. Also, since your HCG is where is is, you are pregnant. No "if" about it. Very tacky.

I'm so glad your numbers came back in good shape. I had some pink and and brown spotting around 4 weeks also, so hopefully it's just your body reacting to that baby settling in for a long time!

  • Yeah you can tell where my head is at.

  • A lot of docs will use terms that aren't absolute until they see your levels continually progressing but doing so at a slow rate. They don't want to get your hopes up. People actually get really bent and blame docs if they miscarry and such, so it's possible she had a bad experience with a patient. More likely, though, it's what @penelope4612 mentioned - a figure of speech. Try not to think into it any extra, as it will only stress you out.

  • The nurse at my dr's office did something similar to me a few weeks ago.  I was really upset.

    tl;dr version:

    I took 800 hpt's - all came up positive.

Went to the dr's for my first blood draw.

On my way out of the office, Nurse A says "Congratulations!"

Nurse B says "Don't say congratulations yet!  We have to make sure her betas go up."

Uh, thanks?  I was pissed.  Just say congrats and let me go on my way.  I know it's early, I know bad things happen, but ignorance is bliss.

Ugh. That's so annoying. I would have been pissed, too!
  • Not really the same, but I had an early loss last month and ended up getting preggo again before I got a period, so now my EDD is sort of unknown. They wanted me to come in for blood work to check my levels, and after I made the appt the nurse said, "If anything changes before then, let us know." I'm sure she didn't mean it in any sort of negative way, but it definitely struck me. Like, you mean if I start bleeding again? Or maybe I'm not really pregnant and tomorrow I'll get a negative test? I know I'm being irrational, but still. I guess I'm a little sensitive right now!
