hey guys.. Does this mean I got a good chance that Ill have milk production ? My mom and aunts have had zero milk and would pump for hours and get nothing . I'm really hoping to breast feed . Anyone know more ?
It's totally normal. Just your body getting prepared to make milk. Nothing to be worried about. But it does mean that you are starting to try to produce colostrum! Hope it goes well for you!
And @kassyfry is right. Nipple stimulation can definitely bring on contractions, so be careful Mama!
I've been able to squeeze colostrum out of mine since about 18 weeks. More from my left than my right. My mom told me that the baby will favor my left boob over the right one. Now I just leak it occasionally without trying to squeeze it out.
I've been able to squeeze out colostrum since about week 25. Some is clear and some is very yellow. It amuses me so I do it just for that reason. I also think it's funny to put it on hubby's hand and watch him freak out. Not really worried about the whole nipple stimulation causing labor. Baby girl is going to come when she is ready.
Yep it's colostrum, which will be really yellow when your baby is born. I've noticed the same lately, but haven't leaked (and didn't with DS either). I BF'd for over a year, so I hope it's a good sign for you!
I just want to add that just because your mom and aunts could not pump milk does not mean they weren't producing it. Baby is the perfect way to get milk from you, not a pump. Also, just because a relative has struggled, doesn't mean you will. Think positive!!
I tried adjusting myself in my bra today and had that happen. Clear fluids came squirting out, lol. I've leaked a little colostrum since about week 22, usually when I'm around others babies who are crying. Or if I've been emotional. Today was totally different. I just barely touched my boobs. Although over that couple of days, my boobs have been feeling very full and sore too. Hopefully it's a sign that my little man is coming sooner than my due date.
I've been leaking here and there for at least 10 weeks. I never leaked with my first baby and my milk supply was great so I don't think leaking early really makes a difference some people do and some don't.
Nipple stimulation will if at all only bring on labor when the body is ready. You can't just sit there whenever during the pregnancy and induce labor by doing so. the body/baby will be ready for it when it works. I am sure people still have sex and hubbys touching them without inducing. I spoke to my midwife about it and she said it won't work yet anyway. I am 34 weeks. I will definately start with it at 37 weeks thou.
Midwives, doctors, doulas all advised me to hand express if/when I wanted to relieve some pressure from the colostrum. All agreed it would not cause me to go into labor early. They did however advise I stay away from the breast pump until at least 39 weeks because that sort of stimulation is much more intense than the gentle relief from hand expressing.
Unfortunately, from what I've read there doesn't seem to be a strong correlation between producing colostrum earlier in pregnancy and having a healthy supply.
My mother was unable to breast feed with me and or my brother, her milk never came in. She was unsure why.
I exclusively breast fed my daughter for 16 months. Just make sure to speak to a lactation consultant ASAP after birth, and ask the nurses for help. I had a difficult time getting my latch right. I buzzed a nurse every time I had to feed DD in the hospital, and they helped me.
I hope that it is colostrum at this point for you, because that means the baby will have its food for the first few days! Take notice of where it is coming from though. I have had clear liquid coming from the Montgomery glands on the areola, but that is just a lubricant. No colostrum yet, but the midwife said to start practicing expression around 37 weeks or so, so if baby has a hard time sucking all of the colostrum out by itself, I can top baby off with a spoonful that I hand expressed.
Re: Squeezed breast and clear liquid comes out
The clear liquid is collestrum and you'll produce it before your milk comes in, no indication on your milk supply.
